AIBU to be a bit puzzled by this advert?

I'm probably reading way too much into it but I've seen ad a few times on the telly now. It's for a Volkswagen family car - man basically moping about the place because he has to take his daughter to ballet rather than go golfing, misses a goal at a football game cos his son needed the loo, etc etc. I just don't get what the ad is trying to say but I guess its not aimed at me, or parents who just get on with it because they have to rather than moping about it with a face like a slapped arse.

Is this how they sell family cars? By appealing to the chained man inside a dad?

Well I see what you mean but also think you're complicating things AND giving advertising execs more credit than they deserve as the vast majority are very literal.

There's no message other than this is a good family car and for any good Dad there's no compromise.

I think the ad fails on the finish as he's seen throwing the "evidence" of his kids in the glove compartment and maybe more was meant to be made of that? That once that's gone it also makes a flash car?

However I know nothing of cars. but yanbu...it's a shite ad with no evidence of imagination.

I actually 'lol'ed at the powderpuff girls because that is my poor DP It's also the duvet part!

I like the advert (In principle because it is true) but I don't like how it's solely aimed at the dad. Surely all parents compromise?

I saw this the other day and I didn't like it either, it almost seemed to be saying 'kids - they ruin your life!'.

The only time he seemed to look happy or enjoying himself was when he was alone in the car, 'evidence' of kids hidden, seemingly on his way to work.

So they are trying to sell cars by saying that having kids makes you miserable? Not sure how that works....

I thought the ad was really sweet - it's about making small sacrifices for your children and that this car allows you to do that but still be the pre kids you as well.
That's what I got from it anyway

I think they're saying that the car is perfect even if the rest of your life is filled with tiny disappointments.

My favourite ad at the moment is the Allianz one with the school run - hilariously accurate!

Seeing him snuggled with his little girl, I didn't think his life was disappointing - its about that loss of you when you have children, how some things unavoidably change but yknow, you can still have yourself if you have the right car

It's a common theme on threads on MN from mothers, that loss of identity - interesting to see it played out from a male perspective.
