AIBU?

to be deflated that I have an interview for yet another short term contract, even though it is at a prestigious institution.

Just that really! I know that I should be glad to get an interview etc but it is quite demoralising as this position is even more badly paid than the last and whilst working part-time and flexibly has its upsides, 0.3FTE is barely enough to get my teeth into and obviously the salary is pro rata.

Can someone please tell me to catch a grip and get over myself. I'm usually quite good at finding the positive in situations but I'm struggling with this one.

Is the post a permanent one, even though it's part time?
Being at this prestigious institution will benefit your CV, yes?
Being in work whilst looking for work is always favourable.
You may come across in house vacancies whilst in the post, maybe?
As a 0.3. you will have time to maybe take another part time post along side should you wish?

Good luck with the interview.

Thanks Arty. The post is temporary (6 months). Have been working at the very same prestigious institution for the last two years so it already features on my CV.

Are you an academic?

OH has an interview tomorrow for a short term post, also at a well respected university. It is full time thankfully (he had a 0.65 this year) but it will be a lot of hassle having to move for it if he gets it since we will have a young baby.

He has been extremely frustrated by watching lots of insider candidates getting full time, permanent lectureships. I suppose a positive is getting your foot in the door/networking within a new institution, maybe something a bit more appropriate for you will come up there next year and you will be in a good position for success with it?

Good luck at your interview!

Lettice, that's such a pain but at least it's going in the right direction. This latest position would be a backwards step for me. I'm not an academic as such but the position is academic-related and the salary is 10K less than I am on currently.

Best of luck to your OH Lettice, hopefully it will lead on to something long term.

UPDATE: got offered job and turned it down, hope that wasn't the wrong decision.
