Someone has either cloned our car reg plate or the firm have read the letter wrong on the reg plate?

DH got home from work and opened his mail to find it's from ParkingEye and that the car was supposedly in London at the Royal Free Hospital, now we live over 70 miles away and dd2 would only have been a month old on the date and on closer inspection of the photo it is not even our car, looks like a completely different make to ours.

As soon as I get a spare 5 minutes I will be phoning the DVLA up, but my god it took a good 10 minutes to figure out it wasn't me or the car, anyone else had this?

My Dad was 'caught' on a speed camera when he was nowhere near it. Fortunately he could prove where he was that day.

Fairly common said the police. He had a nice BMW and they cloned the plate.

Cobtact DVLA, see if they recommend telling the police. You might get pulled over soon for nickibg petrol etc.

Oh hang on... you can't clearly see the number plate? Ring Parking Eye and ask for a clear copy.

The middle letter on our reg plate is a D and and the one on the photo is either a D or an O, but yes I do need to ring the DVLA pronto, currently have a sleeping baby on me.

Thank god your Dad could prove where he is was, it's such a pain isn't it?

Remember that if you refuse to pay they have to sue you in small claims court where no costs are awarded. They won't bother if you show fight.

We got a speeding ticket come through a few weeks ago for a car that was totally written off after some Dick crashed into us on the motorway almost three years ago. They have photographic evidence too apparently Hmm

Somone was taking photos of my car parked outside my house a few weeks ago - when Dp went to confront her, she ran off- I reported to police as it was so suspicious-Police say its scam, they steal a car the same as yrs, then put our reg plate on the stolen car, and if anything happens, like speeding/parking fines/ anything at all, I would get the blame- As its been reported Im in a good place to prove if anything does happen , but this spooked me a bit- the girl ran off, the car she came out of drove away fast but we got that reg so the police should trace them but doubt they will!!!

A workmate of DH's received a picture of his car in a bus lane. He showed it to DH complaining that his GF must have done it and it was going to cost £60 odd.
DH said "I thought you drove a Golf?" "I do" says workmate. "Well that photo is a bloody Astra!"

Not only was it the wrong car, it was completely the wrong colour and DH's workmate hadn't noticed. As it turned out the reg was 1 digit out and it had been read wrongly by whoever sent the fine. If DH hadn't noticed it then workmate would have paid.

mrsnodge the police told you that? Why on earth would someone bother to photograph the car for the registration number? Much easier to go on Autotrader, match the model and take a plate from there. I think the Police have been caught up in a bit of urban legend there.

Might be worth a reasonably distinctive sticker on the back of your car, that way you can tell at a glance whether this is your vehicle or not.

I have a little Italian flag on my bumper (hiding a dent the previous owner put in). There are thousands of white Fiat 500's but probably only mine with this particular sticker on the back.
