I know I need to get a grip, so please be kind! We have driven to northern Italy and are camping in a deserted campsite. I think it's expensive at 40 euros a night, but that's another aibu. A family have arrived with their baby and have camped directly facing our tent with their entrance facing ours. I just don't understand why they wouldn't want privacy too which they could easily have. I'm pregnant which might be fuelling this. O feel like crying and leaving. I'm being an idiot aren't I.

Just move your tent?

Yes. That makes sense. Feel like we would be making a scene if we do that. But good point.

How much of a pain would it be to move your tent to face away from them? Can you manoeuvre a wind break to block out their tent?
Has the ite got great facilities for that price?

Yeah move your tent. I have NO idea why some people do this. It's like when you find a deserted beach and another family comes along and sits about 5 metres away from you when there's the whole rest of the lovely empty beach to choose from. Why why why??

I have shot them a few evils which I feel bad about. I'm crap at being passive aggressive.

OP you haven't stated whether you have LO's or not.. If you do can't you (very politely) tell them your dcs cry a lot at night and it may be best if they move further away? If not say your husband snores or something...
Have a good holiday.

They do it for the same reason that if you park in a deserted carpark some idiot parks right next to you - its human nature . What do you get for your 40 euros ?

Move. To hell with what they think, they are the rude ones.

Does everyone choose their own pitches? I think wanting privacy is a very "British" thing - you can't expect people from other countries to behave the same way.
I agree i would be a bit miffed at this, but you can't stop them doing it. Perhaps they will turn out to be nice and friendly?
Hope the baby doesn't cry a lot!
The campsite may fill up making the other campers a bit less obvious.
Try not to let it spoil your holiday - I doubt they're camping there just to annoy you!

God thanks for support. Just really don't get it. It's a total pain to move it, might as well leave. Facilities... Well there is a superseded paddling pool and sea views but no beach access, so I'm not blown away!

I'd move. We have done this before. Unfortunately we mis-estimated them, they were quiet but the ones who then pitched up next to us werent. argh!!

We've had so many similar instances that now we try and pitch where it is really difficult to pitch next to us in awkward shaped corners and things.

See how it goes tonight. If its awful we can help you find a new place I'm sure!

Don't feel embarrassed about moving, they were stupid for creating such an awkward situation.

People are weird - and if it's any consolation, I'd feel exactly the same as you do!

Two campsites in Arco near to Lake Garda. PM me if you want the names. Brilliant facilities walking distance to town but quiet and loads of stuff to do.

Oh nightmare. I'm well particular about my pitch and its immediate vicinity, this would give me the massive hump. I think I'd definitely have to move, I wouldn't give a fig what they thought. You have my sympathies!

Take it as a compliment that you must have chosen the perfect spot in the site for your tent!

In all seriousness though, I would just move my tent. Because otherwise every time I was woken up by the baby crying I'd regret not doing so. All the while thinking bad thought about inconsiderate Italians.

Are you sure you've not accidentally displayed a camping swingers symbol around your tent? Portable Pampas grass? Key-shaped bunting flapping around your entrance?

Some people are obsessive about having their tent face the 'right' way for wind direction etc (I'm not, modern tents can cope with being the wrong way round in July in Italy.) Perhaps that's why they pitched it with the entrance facing yours? (grasping at straws)

British culture is as far along the 'non-communal' spectrum as it's possible to go. I lived in Italy and people would regularly lean over and look at my book on buses, see it was in English and have long chats about it. I once had a 1/2 hour wrong number call. I like it but it takes some getting used to.

It's just culture, innit?

mrsTerryPratchett Yes. I know that italians like to sit close together on the beach as well, with all the sunloungers in straight lines Confused. Maybe the same goes for italian campsites?
