My d parents have lived in a sleepy village for last 30 years.,,, NO crime what so ever .
Yesterday they got home and some scumbag had broken in and ran sacked bedroom and stole money and my fathers special cufflinks and my mothers engagment ring and her eternity ring .....
I am so very bloody angry , how dare they ! My parents have worked so hard all there life , they even built the house themselves to get the house they wanted at a price they could afford .
I am going to go round all pawnbrokers in area to try and find dm , s rings .
How could they do this to such decent people Grrrr

Because they don't give a fuck, and are probably high on drugs and wouldn't even remember which house they had burgled. They are scum.

Thanks for you. It's awful to be broken in to. Hope your parents are ok.

That's awful. They are scum. We were burgled when I was young, in 1991. We were all out swimming so my parents' jewellery was all at home and was taken. My mum never got over it.

How awful! Twats!

Good idea on going round pawn shops. If your on FB it may be worth posting a pic of things that are stolen to your friends and asking them to keep an eye out. Also keep an eye on the FB buy and sell in your area.

Thank you . I am so worried about my mum she seems far to ok about it all and by nature she worrys about everthing . It is just such a shock as no crime ever in village .
But like you say my first thought was druggy scum ..... would love to find out who did it .
Dm, s rings are not worth much so why take them ......, the senitmenal value is worth so much more to her than some druggy .
I could spit I am so pissed that they did this to 2 extra special people :(

We have a weak police and weak justice system so criminals get away with it again and again.

Report
DeepRedBetty · 12/07/2013 18:50

Tabitha I don't think it's the police. Nine times out of ten things aren't prosecuted to the end not because they haven't caught the bastard, but because the CPS (if it's still called that) won't spend money unless they're damn certain of conviction.

And when I said buikt house them selves I meant it , can always remember coming home from school and mum was tiling roof in the snow .... I said what are you doing and she said well someone s gotta do itx

Horrible. Good luck with your search. You never know.

My parents were burgled more than 20 years ago. They weren't gone long - they'd even left their dinner in the oven.

Everything of sentimental value pinched. Like you said: more of sentimental value than monetary. I can't imagine any modern bride-to-be would want my mum's engagement ring. It was quite ugly with a microdot diamond, but it was hers. She still talks about it.

They were probably lucky to get £50 for the lot. But that's £50 they didn't have to earn.

I hate burglars . Nothing gives me greater pleasure than catching the thieving toerags . Even better is catching artifice burglars ( fake water board officials and the like) , because they specifically target the vulnerable .

Try the pawn shops . If they live in sleepy ruralsville like I do , go to the local paper if you have some pictures of the jewellery . Also keep an eye on the local gumtree , and the cash for gold lot, who don't give a shit what they take .

My grandad got done by artifice burglars , who played the water board trick , and got him to turn the taps on in the kitchen whilst the other went through his living room . They took a silver engraved picture frame , with the last surviving photo of his wedding to my deceased nan in it . Which we found ripped into pieces outside the front door . The frame was replaceable , the photo was priceless . Why ? What was the point . Evil spineless wankers . He died some 6 months later , and I'm sure those fuckers contributed , because he never felt safe again, and lost all his self belief , for some silver and a bit of cash .

Why rip the photo, plomino? That's vile.

I know you're a police officer. You must deal with these people all the time.

My mum saw off some burglary artificers about a year ago. Scum. I don't know the circumstances because she can't remember it properly. It's just that she realised they were dodgy on the doorstep and started shouting and swearing and they ran. But she could have been taken in, as could a much younger person, given a plausible story and the right circumstances. It's just picking on old people that's disgusting because lots of old people don't recover from it.

The police were really nice to her and gave her advice and warned her not to put herself in danger. They knew it wasn't that. It was a pure reaction and I think they were happy she saw them off.

They asked her to look through some photos and she kept saying there was no need because one of them the spit of Tommy Walsh. She was quite cross they didn't follow it up.

To be fair to the police, I can see why that was a bit of a problem but I just go: 'Mmm. Yeah, yeah. Lazy bastards.' Sorry about that, but she is 90. Grin I'm grateful to you.

Oh, and sorry about your granddad. I think you're right about them hastening his death. They certainly didn't make his last months on earth any happier.

Thanks limited

What really grieves me workwise, is when we catch them bang to rights in the act , the CPS actually prosecutes them , they get found guilty , and despite having a LOAD of previous convictions , get a paltry sentence , which is even smaller once their remand time is knocked off . Sometimes I wish all magistrates should be victims of burglary , because then we might actually get some decent sentencing.

furbaby I hope your mum and dad are ok. Please let them know that if they have any worries , the local safer neighbourhood teams will always be happy to come round . Sometimes shock takes a while to kick in . I know it did with my grandad .

This happened to my parents about twenty years ago. They stole a watch belonging to my late great grandmother.
They threw my mum's handbag and contents down a back lane, I remember being about ten and watching her crying as a elderly male neighbour helped her pick up her things. My mum was embarrassed as it was tampons. Sounds siIly now I write that but it made her sad.
She searched every local second hand shop for the watch, got the insurance money but it meant nothing.
She still takes her handbag up to bed with her now at nighttimes.
People that burgle are scum. Sorry for what happened to your parents. Look after them and yourself.

I just can't stand that sort of thing, your poor parents. :(

My brother had a wallet that belonged to our grandfather, and it was stolen out of his truck. My brother is an arse and nothing means much to him, but that wallet did. He adored our Grandpa.

It still makes me so angry. Angry I just don't understand what makes people think they have the right!
