Not all couriers, Twatty, I can remember getting nothing but a generic calling card from some couriers, for instance. Nothing about a specific consignment.

The problems arise if the item goes missing or is damaged, most places will only deal with the person who booked it, meaning they can claim refund from you and then the couriers, leaving you out of pocket.

When a courier collects they give you a slip of paper with the consignment number etc on it as your proof that it has passed into their possession. This happens whether you have arranged the courier or the buyer has.

I paid on paypal and arranged my own courier and it worked out fine - but I am an honest type I guess.

Have you sent an invoice? Can you see if a courier you organise would work for you? You get more say over when it is picked up from you possibly and can add that cost to the invoice to be paid before you book the courier?

Ah yes, the proof of postage bit.

If you get a copy of the couriers paperwork for collection, then it should be covered. I queried this with paypal before and they said it was fine as there was a papertrail.

However I have also had people send their own couriers who turned up with cash too.

I would give it a bit longer to be honest. 7 hours is a working day, and they may be trying to arrange a courier or collection first...

I sell a lot on ebay and get asked this quite a bit with "collection only" items, so I just tell them the size and weight and point them in the direction of "myparceldelivery.com".

Never let the buyer arrange their own courier. You will have no proof of postage/delivery and buyer can claim back her money from paypal saying she never had the item.

Message back and say collection only (cash on collection not paypal) or arrange a courier from your end so you have proof of postage

Hmmm AIBU to be a bit hmm - listed item - buyer emails offering to BIN - refuse.

Item is COLLECT IN PERSON - buyer emails during auction inquiring if they can send a courier to collect - I reply 'yes '

Buyer wins

Buyer then suggest I add courier costs to invoice - as per our email. I respond with a 'no - but if you need to arrange it as per our email, here is my address'

7 hours later no response to email and no payment

would you begin to think bollox?
