At the zoo today, penguin feeding time. Only 12 children could be chosen to actually feed the penguins, there were loads of children who didn't get the chance.
One who did get picked was a little lad of about three near us, he was given a fish to feed the penguins but was so enthralled he just stood staring at them but not feeding them.
Another mum nearby then says to his Mum, 'He's not even feeding the penguins. My two want to feed them, get him out, he's wasting time.'
The other mum (very sensibly) ignored her, and the woman then began to speak loudly to her two sons about 'VERY SELFISH PEOPLE.'
I was and my two got the giggles so I made a getaway

My job involves picking children to help take part in shows etc.

You would not believe how many of these vile pricks exist. I actually perceive it as quite bullying behaviour ( especially when the other poor kid has no adult around 'fighting their corner') and I never pander to it.

Or he could have been wanting to take the fish home to be his pet, which is when DS2 had in mind when he persuaded me to buy a trout from the fish counter in Sainsbury's.

We have a season ticket for Whipsnade and london Zoo and generally go at least once a week during the holidays. Going twice a week during summer increases your child's chance of getting picked. Especially when the zoo keeper recongises your children because they have been to the show three times that week. (and only got picked the third time!)

I think that the little lad sounds lovely. I hope that he and his family had a good day.

When we go to local farm and they have feeding time for animals they do say loudly " no pushing, and I am talking to YOU PARENTS, your usually the worst offenders" then we all laugh and are nice and polite.

lol... Its better value than poxy children's farms! The advantage of a season ticket is that you don't feel you need to spend the whole day there because of the high entrance fee. I don't think I could tolerate a whole day of Whipsnade.

Whipsnade is a relatively cheap way to entertain children during the long break if you have a season ticket. We often go down to Whipsnade with friends for just a couple of hours. The children play in the park and the parents drink coffee (from a flask not bought) or read a book. I have to admit that my children more interested in the park and the train rather than the animals.

Recently Whipsnade opened a soft play area which is my idea of hell, but my daughter loves it.

Membership of Whipsnade/ London zoo costs £120 for one adult and up to five children. A family with one child needs to go about 3 times in a year to make it finanically worth while. Members also get a certain number of half price tickets, free parking and 10% off in the gift shop and resturant.
