AIBU?

To wish at the age of 40 that I didn't still blush furiously at pretty much anything??

It's ridiculous. I've always blushed but FFS I'm a mature and reasonably successful person with a mortgage and wrinkles and everything. What gives?

Don't sat that, I'm 28 and was hoping I'd grow out of it!

Sorry pickled, age seems to have no effect!

Oh I share your blushes. It's awful isnt it? I loathe it, especially when speaking to more than 3 people. It's crazy.

I know, you feel like such a knob. Trouble is, I can speak to a room full of people and not blush and then blush scarlet when chatting to one person I've known for years.

I'm the same (just turned 40), my neck is the worst, especially in arguments or awkward situations (staff reports etc) Smile

I've found recently that my blushing has got better due to wearing foundation, and using the Boots Calm Skin lotion underneath. At least it's less noticeable.

I sympathise, my blushing is chest and no idea why it starts although always in social situations.

Halter necks are my friend as they cover my neck and then that's fine.

It's horrible though op.

And nothing is worse than someone saying "you're going red!"...dreading what hot flushes will do !

I'm the same. I'm fine when controlling a conversation but if I'm put on the spot, even with people I know well it's awful

I just hope I'm not blushing as much as I think I am, but I'm probably wrong because people notice!

Oh god, I'm not near 40, but I go TOMATO sometimes. And for no reason! If someone addresses a remark to me....I can feel my face just burning, all over, it's pathetic.
My eyes also sometimes water (!) in embarrassing situations....and I also have been known shake, visibly Blush I have apparently "moderate anxiety" but I don't trust so much in these phrases and I think I will grow out of it, like most people grow out of shyness or tummyaches or something....apparently not the blushes though.....

Are you very pale? You might just be blushing the same amount as anyone else, but showing it more?

Blushing is usually quite charming, don't fret!

I'm 41 and still blush! Sometimes, I'm perfectly comfortably having a conversation and I think 'wouldn't it be embarrassing if you started blushing' and the thought of blushing sets off that 'hot' feeling, then I think 'oh no! you're starting to blush, how embarrassing' which of course makes the slight rosiness go to full blown redness, then I realise that I have of course completely lost track of what the other person is saying, so that sends the redness off to completely purple, lol! It's all my own doing.

I feel your pain I really do!

I'm 41 now and it is MUCH better than it used to be...I even had hypnotherapy in my early 30's as I felt it was affecting me at work. Not helped by one particular arse who always used to point it out in meetings - "Kate is BLUSHING again everyone!" Yeah thanks for that Hmm

It has improved with age and self-confidence but I do still sometimes get caught out, especially in unexpected situations.

I had same problem and had a session of hypnotherapy which stopped it. Best £60 I ever spent!

I am lucky in that I don't blush. Ever. I have the feelings which accompany it but, for some reason, my skin just doesn't blush. I always look pasty.

But the DCs are blushers and I find it cute but am sure they will not like it at all when they are a bit older.

Oh god i blush terribly too and am hoping i "grow out of it"

When people make stupid comments like "you've gone bright red" or "what you going red for" i want to punch them because i can feel myself going even redder, fucking stupid twats.

KateMush - did your hypnotherapy involve visualising an embarassing situation as a cartoon? I 've had this but it didn't work.
Believe - your comment chimed with me - I think it is to do with not having control of a situation - this creates anxiety which leads to the dreaded beetroot face!

seadiamond you sound like you are describing me!! And I am 44!
I have come to terms with it now and find it funny (well sometimes; other times I feel so gauche). I do find it endearing in other people though....

Can I join in? Terrible blusher here too. Can so relate to your posts, especially Seadiamond. I can get quite distracted in a conversation and can trigger a blast of redness due to anxiety. It's even worse now that I am peri flushes now. It's awful. No amount of makeup can camourflage the unflattering shade of crimson.

Abigboydidit, can I ask you what your hypnosis involved. Did it really only take one session? I'm tempted to go down this route.

I too am a terrible blusher still at 34 years old. Just when I think it's not happened for a while something innocuous sets it off. It's the focus on me generally that does it, in a conversation or whatever. Yet for years I did amateur theatre productions and concerts with no problems!!! It's totally bizarreBlush

I also want to know what the hypnotherapy involved!

I am a blusher too. I hate myself for it. I really hope my kids don't inherit blushing from me. I am 36. I blush in every situation and it does affect my life - I am shy and scared of interviews to develop my career etc. I avoid situation where I know I will blush. I would love to have short hair - but I hide behind my long (messy) hair.
