Today i went to pick up one of my mindees at nursery. Havent seen one of the workers there since june. First thing she said to me was "have you put on weight over the summer?" i was caught off guard and saod "pardon?!" and she went further and said "you just look a bit chunkier" i should have said something but just grabbed the child and left. I have put on 2 stone since last september and i am on my way to getting it off! She is no skinny minnie herself.

Btw i am a size 12,hardly overweight imo!!!

That's horrible, I'd have given the old "did you mean to be that rude?" line, and mention something about wanting staff with manners to look after my children to management next time I saw them. Nasty unneccesary remark regardless of its truth.

I would have said 'No, are you pregnant?' .

Extremely rude whether you are a size 12 or size 20! I just don't get some people. Why would anyone think it ok to say that?

So, you have put on weight and she asked if you had ?
Confused

Isn't that purely descriptive???

If my friend asked me if I'd put on weight I'd and answer yes if I had, no if I hadn't.

Yes it was rude, it's always rude to ask someone if they've put on weight. But yet people think its an acceptable thing to ask.

People constantly ask me if I'm pregnant, especially in my work uniform. I just have one of those shapes where my stomach always sticks out. It makes me so upset when people ask, and really Blush.

I wish I was quick enough to say something smart but I just nervously laugh it off. I feel your pain op.

So by that definition if the op wasn't wearing make up it would be ok to say "you got uglier?"

Laurie the operative word in your sentence is FRIEND! The OP was asked by a professional in a professional setting about her weight!

highly inappropriate and I would complain to the manager....she could say something like that to a parent...what if it were a Mother with PND or just someone who is sensitive!

Of course it was rude. Do you really need to ask?

Yes, rude.

I remember once being in sainsburys, it was summer and I was wearing a smock dress, the girl on the check out said "Would you like someone to pack for you, I wouldn't lift all those heavy things in your condition" Confused

Mind you I had to laugh coz I told her I was plump rather than preggers and she went scarlet Grin

I wish i had said something but i was so shocked she had asked!! Reason im askig wibu is because i mentioned it to dp last night and he said i was being silly to let this cow upset me so much.
I changed the method of contraception i am using last spring, would really like to start trying for a baby but dp is not ready so have made the decision to get an implant for 2 years,im pretty certain its contributed to my weight gain. Im well aware i have gained weight i dont need someone i hardly know very well to point it out to me.

Nursery worker apologized to me this morning when i dropped the child off....maybe she realised she was out of order by my reaction or maybe she is a mnetter and has seen this.

Glad to know IANBU
