to not understand the attraction of panckes?

(65 Posts)

Normal English style stodgers.

Taste like a disc of glue and so you shove loads of BadForYous on to the top to give it some ooomph.

Why the actual jif do we bother?

Could have an eclair instead.

I don't make good pancakes - Sainbury's do though. In the chiller cabinet, the sweet ones. Just one little nude pancake a day makes me happy. smile

usualsuspect Sat 11-Feb-12 15:57:44

catgirl1976 Sat 11-Feb-12 15:59:59

Two words.

Maple. Syrup.

Mind you I have maple syrup on my bacon.

I love pancakes!

I make cauliflower/brocolli cheese, place it in the pancakes, roll them up, place them in a dish, sprinkle more cheese on top and bung in the oven until the cheese melts.

Sadly only one of friends actually appreciates this dish. The rest find it oddd.

It isn't about the pancake itself. The pancake is just a canvas for the artistic food explosion that goes on top of it. This year I have got some toffeed balsamic and blueberry syrup that I am itching to try out, over raspberries and cream. Pancakes here tend to end up a good couple of inches high and the workbench is covered in potential toppings. The DC have a whale of a time trying out as many different combinations as they can, but for the very last pancake they always revert to good old lemon and sugar.

they are like the rubber mats DH uses on his turntable to protect his pfb vinyl grin

YADNBU

and they are a right pig to make, cakes but without a deliciously childish bowl to scrape out <boak>

Made well they are lovely. I think some of the descriptions on here are of badly made pieces of stodge which are bound to be vile. Premade pancakes simply aren't as good as home made, even Aunt Bessie's aren't very nice. DD loves pancakes so I make batches of them and keep any leftovers in the freezer (interleaved with baking parchment so I can take them out one at a time).

They shouldn't be thick or stodgy. If they are you have put too much batter in the pan or you have cooked them at too low a temperature.

yabu- you just can't make them properly if they taste the way you say they do.

babybythesea Sat 11-Feb-12 16:23:04

Very very U.
Pancakes are the food of the gods and most probably my favouritest food ever. Even if you count in chocolate. Now I want some (or as my dd says - my tummy is pointing at pancakes)...

dreamingofsun Sat 11-Feb-12 16:23:22

great thing for kids to cook using jamie's recipe - 1 mug sr flour, 1 mug milk, 1 egg. great for lunch/ breakfast if you run out of food. great for camping. eclairs for breakfast!!!!!!! you need to rethink

Scholes34 Sat 11-Feb-12 16:36:31

Nigella's American breakfast pancakes are superb, especially with fresh blueberries popped on top before you turn there. I also take batter with us camping for a marvellous breakfast.

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky Sat 11-Feb-12 16:39:19

Pancakes with baked beans and cheese is awsome!!

Therefore YABU

ShowOfUmblestAnds Sat 11-Feb-12 16:43:40

I prefer drop scones and always have them savoury. No badforyous here.

You're utterly warped not to understand the attraction. Eat a pancake you harridan.

Eclairs, btw, are rubbish.

Thankgodforcaffeine Sat 11-Feb-12 16:46:14

Words fail me. It makes me wonder at the sort of human being you are OP.

grin

sausagesandmarmelade Sat 11-Feb-12 16:49:36

YABU....very!

Pancakes are delicious. Take me right back to childhood when my Mum used to makes piles of them for me and my brother.

Particularly yummy with lemon and sugar, jam or golden syrup....or with apples in or stewed rhubarb on top!

Will be making some on Pancake Day with my Herman mixture...don't ask!

Thankgodforcaffeine Sat 11-Feb-12 16:53:56

Oh bugger. I fancy pancakes and Nutella now.

Thanks OP for ruining my diet.

grin

Dont have to have badforyous you know!!!!

worzelswife Sat 11-Feb-12 17:00:45

Dreaming now you've reminded me of Jamie's pancake cake which I made last summer.
Layers of pancake, whipped cream and nutella (or melted chocolate). Dear god in heaven that was good.
