to make DD earn herself a new ballet leotard?

Don't know what's come over me to make me post in AIBU!

Anyway. DD is 8. She does lots of dance (three different disciplines) and requires 4 different types of dance shoe, two different types of leotard, four lessons a week, numerous exam fees, show costumes and so on.

I know there are those who would think this was crazy in itself, but that's not the point.

She has lost her ballet leotard, which was only bought for her at the start of this term. She's lost it through her own carelessness and disobedience (won't bore you with the details of how, exactly) and her attitude was one of 'hey-ho, Mummy will just buy me a new one'.

A new leotard will cost me about £15.

I have made a list of household jobs (things like dusting her room, emptying the dishwasher, weeding the flower beds, putting laundry away) and assigned each task a nominal ££ value. I intend to present it to her as a menu, and invite her to complete jobs to the value of £15 before I buy her a new leotard.

AIBU?

Very good idea, actually.

Sounds fair enough to me.

I made DD1 wear the one I'd accidently put a hot-enough-to-fry-eggs iron on Blush

But then I did do all the jobs you've listed above and eventually bought her another one so consider myself well and truly punished Grin
