AIBU?

To think that Jeremy Vine's show on Radio 2 is the Daily Mail on Radio?

Seldomly listen to R2 but just happened to have it on when Jeremy Vine's show was on today. Not so much Jezza himself, but the mentality of the discussion and people that phone in is nauseatingly 'Daily Mail'...AIBU?

For better or worse, it's how the majority of the country thinks. There's a reason why the Mail is so popular, and papers like the Guardian and Independent far less so.

I was just thinking that myself!

YANBU.

He's an arsehole, and so are the people who ring in.

That's why I am "banned" from listening to it, as I used to shout at the Radio Smile

I dont think its anything like Daily Mail, but I do question the sanity and intelligence of many who phone in

I find myself shouting at the radio on a regular basis when that programme is on. Tis a haven for small-minded individuals who collectively appear to be DM readers.

For the sake of my health I have found it better to forego a little lunchtime debate and take the dog for a walk instead!

And I used to love the Jimmy Young show Sad. I can't listen to JV without wanting to harm the radio.

Glad I'm not alone. Call me an old fart, but back to Radio 4 for me...

I hate it when radio shows read out inflammatory texts. Five Live do it too. If it were their own words it wouldn't be allowed but hidden behind texts they can say all manor of offensive things. Makes my blood boil.

Don't read out offensive shite radio people.

Why shouldn't they read out inflammatory texts? It helps provoke discussion.

Have you listened to the spoof "Down the line", hilarious! Please do, or google The Daily Mail song... unfortunately my parents read it every day, and the inlaws read The Express

Yes, Down the Line is great.

Nick Ferrari on LBC, in fact all of LBC is like the fail in audio. Except when Red Ken is on, of course.

so would you prefer they only read texts that praised the topic, or agreed with your POV?

sheesh talk about free speech :)

YAMA, yes 5-Live do read out arousal texts. (It probably brings the callers in)

I never thought of Jeremy Vine as Daily Mailish; but I have not listened recerntly

When I was younger, a chap called Chris Jones used to take calls straight off the line. Slogan "Dont mind what you call me, but call me,"

It made for exciting phone-in but you would need a 5 second delay now.

Radio 5-Live could experiment with this. You do need a very experienced
presenmter. Nolan, Richard or or Queen Victoria could do it. Gabby would not have been happy with it.

yanbu - it is the daily mail on the radio and not just the guests/callers.

JV regularly introduces and frames topics in a ridiculous emotive way; rarely about rational debate and more just to get all the shoutie "outraged of guildfords" on the phone.

Down the Line is fab!

I have banned myself from listening to it - or the poor radio may suffer. YANBU

You are saying he is different to say Jimmy Young was. Well, that may be true. The progs that use phone-in tend to whip the callers in. Radio 4 has a few good phone-ins but they are very stage managed.

Someone needs to try taking callers straight off the line with a 5 second delay.

It's the What Next? Brigade does my head in so I listen to Radio 6 music after Woman's Hour.
