Toysrus Sylvanian Wedding Set - RIP OFF!!!!!

I purchased a Sylvanian Wedding Set early March 2011 for my dd birthday from the Solihull store. Lazily, three weeks after purchasing it I put the batteries into the cake that is meant to light up. The cake did not light up despite testing the batteries on other products and so I drove to the store to get an exchange. They tested three sets in store which were all faulty and when the manager contacted their QA department she was told it is a known problem and they were expecting a new shipment from Flair. Why are they selling goods they know to be faulty?

Because DD wanted a set so much I tried ordering another set online, hoping to get a good one from another batch, which on receipt was also faulty. The Solihull store have tested another 3 products from the new batch which are also faulty. My friends in Leicestershire and Hertfordshire have tested products in their localities which are also faulty. When I suggested to the manager of the Solihull store that it appeared there was a national problem and that the products tested, both the wedding accessory set and the full wedding set, should be removed from their shelves she replied that they "had not evidence of a widespread problem". When I said that I would systemically buy products and test each one she refused to serve me stating that Toysrus is a private company and that could refuse to serve andy customer. What is she trying to hide?

Just get a refund.

If you like, also write a letter to head office saying that you have been disappointed by the quality of their goods.

Toys R Us are evil and I hate them.

They refused to let us buy a Wii Fit unless we bought the (overpriced weird brand) batteries from them as well.

This is store policy apparently, albeit a store policy they pick and chose with toys to enforce it on. We told them where to stick the batteries and the Wii Fit.

I've also seen them refuse to help a woman who had bought one of the new Nintendo DS things the day before and returned it as faulty because "once an electrical item leaves the store you have to deal directly with the manufacturer if it's faulty."

Can you get in touch with consumer direct or trading standards about it?

Sylvanian stuff is ridiculously expensive. Give up on it and get some playmobil instead.

We have the wedding set and it all works properly. Have had it a while though.

I am not keen on Toys R Us tbh though - never find their customer service great at all.

SF on the whole though are pretty fab. DD much prefers it to Playmobil, which at 9y she now considers a bit too young, whereas the SF is still going strong. Wouldn't say it was any dearer that Playmobil either and far more likely to be on special offers.

That's terrible service.
With regard to the dodgy DS, we took one back to Argos after 2 months because it broke and they sent it off to be repaired.

Staff in Toys R Us are awful.

You mean you actually were able to find a walking/talking member of staff at Toys-r-Us ...?????

I suppose the gripe is with SF/Flair who are ultimately responsible, but Toys-r-Us really are on shaky ground knowingly selling you faulty goods ...
