to have a really low tolerance for people expressing boredom with their lives

if it's boring you, do something about it

if you've got everything, do something for someone else

life is short folks and you never know what's round the corner

OP posts:
warthog · 28/03/2011 19:01

totally true. couldn't agree more.

magicmummy1 · 28/03/2011 19:02

I'm with you on this. If you're not happy, do something about it!

But I suspect that some people were born to whinge...

RAlover · 28/03/2011 19:02

Completely agree, love my life, sometimes mundane but never boring!! Wink

niceday · 28/03/2011 19:03

People do smthng about it - they complain and ask for advice. So YABU

MarianneM · 28/03/2011 19:05

Yes!!! Totally agree. People moaning about their lives without any intention to try to change things is really annoying.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 28/03/2011 19:06

YABU & YANBU

Sometimes it's good therapy to moan. But not all the time

ilovesooty · 28/03/2011 19:06

Totally agree.

BarryBoredFace · 28/03/2011 19:17

Actually it depends on the circumstances I am thoroughly and overwhelmingly bored with my life. I can't find a job ATM, my children are both at school during the day. I do some voluntary work but not enough to keep me busy and I can't commit more to that as the only work I do is supply teaching and it's unreasonable to dump a voluntary commitment with an hours notice because I've been asked to teach that day (usually get phone call at 7.30am asking me to work).
I can't spend alot of money on hobbies etc as the not working has put pay to that so yes on paper I have nothing to complain about as I have wonderful dh, two marvellous children and a lovely home but the reality is a frustrated, bored, borderline depressed individual. So farkin there.

scottishmummy · 28/03/2011 19:20

some folk are cup half empty, more negative disposition and sometimes factors conspire against people.if it were that easy people would just do it

but in general yes if you dont like situation then summon some gumption to change (if are mentally/physically able)

nethunsreject · 28/03/2011 19:22

I would have agreed up until a few months ago, then things changed for me. I am bored, but not yet in a position to change things due to money, needs of others, transport probs, etc. However, with the exception of this post, I do not mention it, as there have been times in my life I'd have loved to have been bored!

scatteredbraincells · 28/03/2011 19:23

when I was a SAHM with two little kids and had health issues preventing me to go to work I was bored out of my face and I suppose I whinged a lot to DH, there was nothing I could do about it. Had no time or money to be anything other than mummy.... I knew things would get better though and they did when kids went to school and I got the chance to get proper treatment.

I'm just saying that I know first hand sometimes it's a bit more complicated than "do something about it"...

Blissfuly happy now, but I've been there and got the boredom and whinge badge

fluffles · 28/03/2011 19:23

YANBU with people who do nothing to change... YABU if somebody is trying or is stuck temporarily.. particularly today for people who want a new job but can't find one..

[i HATE my current job but am stuck in it till July for complicated reasons - i have hated my job for about six months now so it will have been a year in total.. i complain, a lot, but i also know it's temporary.]

tethersend · 28/03/2011 19:26

YABU. Or YANBU.

I don't know. I stopped reading halfway through the OP because I was bored, so I have no idea what it's about.

thaigreencurry · 28/03/2011 19:28

YABU. If you can't moan you end up internalising your problems which isn't healthy. Years ago I remember a colleague saying that it was really draining being around people who are unhappy or moan. This stuck with me and I have made a conscious decision to never tell anyone in rl if I am fed up. As a result of this I always put on a brave face and feel very alone a lot of the time.

NormanTheForeman · 28/03/2011 19:30

I do think it sometimes depends on circumstances. After ds was born I was extremely bored - because I found looking after a baby mind-numbingly boring. I couldn't really change that, because I had to look after him. I couldn't return to work, because my job involved working lots of shifts with no pattern to them (work were very inflexible and wouldn't give me any sort of set hours), so I couldn't find childcare to accommodate (parents/ILs lived a long way away etc).

I did try to do things to lessen the boredom in my life (I went out one evening to the band I play in, from when ds was 4 weeks old, and tried to take him to lots of activities (Tumbletots, swimming, music club etc) to get us out and about and meet people), but I still found it incredibly boring, even though I loved ds.

Once he was a few years old, things improved a lot, as he could talk, and do far more interesting things. Plus I got more time back once he was at nursery/school to pursue more of my own interests.

Times change in your life. I was never bored before I had ds. My job was sometimes interesting, sometimes not, but my free time was my own, and I could choose to do interesting things in it.

thaigreencurry · 28/03/2011 19:30

Having said that I've never really been "bored" as such, far too busy for that!

Lol at Tethersend!

You say you hate moaning activate but my you have a short fuse for someone so apparently laid back. Viper

jenga079 · 28/03/2011 19:50

YANBU. I totally agree. One of my friends used to do this. One day I just said something along the lines of 'oh, ffs, stop moaning. You make your own luck. Just bloody do something'

Luckily, she didn't turn round and lamp me. She quit her job, went travelling and now updates her facebook with amazing pics of her doing incredible things. I'm soooo jealous of her now!
