Not sure this us the right place to post but want to warn everybody. Please read and spread the word to warn others:

I got an email from paypal last week telling me a payment of £44.99 could not be made. If this was not an authorised transaction please click on link to cancel. This transaction was not authorised so I clicked on link which took me through to paypal. I logged in with my user name and password. I was asked to verify all my details which I did, I was then told the transaction was cancelled and would no longer show on my account. I thought nothing more of this until today. This morning I had a similar email but this time for £199.99 so phoned paypal to query it. They told me this was a con and not from them they advised me to contact my bank and cancel all cards and check all transactions immediately. I did this only to find my bank account has now been emptied. Someone has transferred all my money via western union online. If you receive any emails from paypal remotely like this please contact the fraud dept at your bank and forward the emails to [email protected]

Never ever click on a link from an email even if it looks genuine.

Always go to your paypal account directly and check there.

Feel so totally stupid for not realising it was a scam.the fact I effectively gave them my details makes the whole thing even worse

Always sign into PayPal direct. Never click a link.

I hope you get your money back. If the transactions were through your PayPal account then dispute them via the Resolution Centre.

I got one but knew straight away it was a scam.
I would never click on a link and would never input my details if they are already supposed to know them.

Thanks for flagging this up. I think we should try and keep it active.
I've almost fallen for something like this in the past, but when it got to the stage of me supplying them with my PIN number I realised it must be a scam.

Then when you examine these things you usually find they've slipped up somewhere with a grammatical error, or they've addressed it to 'Dear customer' rather than using your name.

clpsmum, that's awful!

I've seen a massive increase in 'security' type emails lately, and my account is relatively new.

I've been getting several a week claiming to be from various banks and organisations (only one of which I hold an account with) saying that unauthorised transactions have been made, or asking me to confirm bookings that I've never made.

I just completely ignore them and delete them from my junkmail box because I know my bank would call if there were a genuine problem. However every time I delete them, I still think, 'I hope this isn't genuine' - and it's this doubt that they play on and catch people out. Bastards.

I hope your bank can sort this out for you x

I had one, but reading it they were asking for the last three letters off my card, my bank security code for telephone banking and my PIN for my bank card. If that doesn't set off warning bells nothing will!

I did fill it in using Mickey Mouse as my name and all 1111 for all numeric details required but it didn't like it. Plus the fact, I haven't used Paypal for a year....
