AIBU?

Waited in all day for furniture assemblers...

I'm 37 weeks pregnant. I bought nursery furniture from Mamas and Papas and arranged a fortnight ago for their furniture assemblers to come today to put it together. This was the first date they could do.

They called yesterday and said they'd be here in the morning, possibly first thing, so I've been waiting around all day. I called them at about 11am and they said they were having some trouble with a sat nav (!) and had to go buy a new one, so it would be after lunch.

I just called them and they said, oh, other jobs have overrun, they'll be with me at 6pm! They reckon the job will take 3 hours...

I asked if they could come tomorrow instead, they said no, the next date they can do is the week after next.

AIBU to have basically told them to fuck off, hung up on them and burst into tears?!

I honestly don't know whether to just put up with them being here all evening and wait to go to bed until they leave (DH gets up at 5am and I'm bloody knackered too) or is it as ridiculous as I think it is?

And does anyone fancy a flat pack furniture assembling party on Saturday?!!?

I'd tell them not to bother, get your money back for the service (if applicable) and go with the party idea instead. Persuade a few of your more practical mates or rellies to come round ... offers of wine and hot supper help considerably.... hand out the screwdrivers and watch the furniture emerge. Flat-pack is piss-easy to assemble. Three hours? You'll get it done in half the time.

You're so right Chil, thank you. In fact, I should have done that in the first place rather than choosing to spend 100 quid that i don't have getting someone else to do it. I just thought it would be more professionally assembled that way (nothing's too good for my PFB!) and that it would mean that DH and I didn't spend yet another weekend on house/baby stuff!

Will go create a buzz around my much anticipated flat pack and shepherd's pie evening... how can it not be a huge hit?!

You could probably get a joiner from a local paper/gumtree etc, for much less than £100 who would do it in half the time and probably at a time that would suit you.

I understand where you are coming from, when i was about your stage in pregnancy I screamed at an argos delivery man and ended up crying!

Where abouts do you live? I would happily help assemble it for free

Haha Aimsmum, I think I said 'I HATE you' through my sobs to the guy on the phone! Like a five year old! Blush

Have spoken to my DH and to my dad and they are going to rally the troops and get it sorted on Saturday. I am having a cup of tea and some cake and suddenly things don't seem so bad.

Soremummy, thank you so much for the lovely offer! I'm in North London, I'll let you know if any other little jobs come up Grin !

Flat pack is a lot easier than it looks (knows from bitter experience of ordering a triple pine wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside table supposedly assembled).

It's easy to feel overwhelmed when heavily pregnant though!

I had ordered a wardrobe, on the first attempt the dropped it on the way up the stairs and it completely broke, on the second attempt, a few days later, they battered it of the stairs and took a big chunk out of it. On the third delivery, I opened that door to them and started screaming like a crazy person before they even entered the house! Then cried! The obviously thought I was a complete nutter! Grin

Hope you get everything sorted over the weekend, enjoy your cake! Smile

All you need to do is wait until DH/DP has a mate round, start to assemble it yourself and watch as they can't help themselves. Always works for me. I started a bed, shelves and bedside tables, all finished by menfolk. One of the wives is in on it and brings her DH and a bottle of wine. The DHs do the work and we sit with our feet up drinking vino.

I build my own flatpacks. I'm practically a genius!

Though I realise that at 37 weeks pregnant it might be a stretch. I like the getting some friends round idea. Smile

North London? Damn.

I LOVE assembling flat pack furniture (should probably get out more).

I'm miles away though.

Go with the party idea. Pizza tastes good whilst sitting on the floor surrounded by screws and stuff!

Ooh, we're redoing the living room, feel free to join in!

In all seriousness I love flat pack, can understand maybe not at 37 wks though.
