AIBU?

To not be able to cope with being cold?

muggglewump · 03/11/2010 19:22

I can't, I just can't do it again.
Every year I spend a fortune on the heating and still I'm cold.
I'm always cold and I can't stand it.

I just went to the shop, it's two minutes away, I am wearing appropriate clothes but I was freezing, and it's just going to get worse.

I can't stand it, it makes me so miserable.

I don't want to move abroad, because I have lived abroad, but I can't cope with cold.

I feel so unhappy when I'm cold.
God, it sounds pathetic, it is pathetic but I hate it.

I spend so much money on the heating and then still avoid leaving the house because I hate being cold.

I am living in this at the moment, and am SO warm.

Though might have had this if I had seen it first.

YANBU. Maybe you have an underlying medical condition that should be checked out? Poor circulation, thyroid problems?

And are you sure you are wearing enough clothing for you - i.e. not the clothing industry's idea of "warm" clothing?

I live in an icebox old stonebuilt house, and I have found when working at home on the PC and not moving about I got very cold.

Have a think about layers and fabrics - I wear longsleeved thermal vests and "long johns" in the winter [niiiiice!], I don't bother with acrylic jumpers, they're not warm enough. I wear a lot of wool. Also I don't wear much cotton in winter - prefer thermals, Uniqlo heat tech etc.

Typically I'll have a thermal base layer, a woollen jumper, and a woollen cardi over that. Tights, longjohns, trousers and socks. My slippers are calf-length sheepskin booties. My boots are thermal-lined. I have sheepskin insoles in my wellies. My coat is windproof. And I wear a scarf indoors and out - doesn't have to be a woolly one, anything round the neck goes a long way. Hat and gloves are really a must also. I sometimes wear a beanie hat in the house (but usually because I've been wearing it in the garden and can't face taking it off to reveal my "hat hair"! I don't look too Michelin-esque. Wink

As an experiment, why don't you try upping the number of layers/ amount of warm clothing you wear, and see at what point you start to feel more comfortable?

The other thing that keeps me warm is doing the hoovering ...

Good luck OP it's horrible feeling cold.

It's going out I have a problem with.
I can stay at home and keep warm, but the minute I leave the house I'm cold and I hate it.
I'm just so cold all the time.

I know I'm being a big pathetic wuss but it depresses me all winter.

I have a daylight lamp this year, am taking vitamin D, but am still always cold.

Sounds like a job for "more clothes" - honestly, good thermal boots, hat, scarf, gloves, decent windproof coat, makes all the difference to me.

MW - I wear socks, leggings, another pair of socks over the top, then either my jeans or work trousers, a vest, a woollen turtle neck jumper, some sort of shirt and tshirt (which looks respectable with it) and either a boyfriend cardi or one of my work cardis.

for slippers i have mid length calf woolly ones from accessorize and wouldn't be without them

I tend to keep warm that way but I also have a circulation prob which doesn't help but I have medication for that.

Want to second cruelladepoppins' advice re layers. And especially thermals. Muggglewunp do you wear thermals under your clothes? They might make all the difference.

Agree wth layers, layers and more layers!! Plus a scarf at all times!

And thats just inside Grin

I have to walk the dog everyday and though I don't look forward to it on a cold day, once I get going, I do enjoy the fresh air. But a hat, gloves and thick coat are essential. Plus, may sound really silly but if you walk quickly, you do get quite warm! Then when you go back inside, you feeling boiling hot for about 10mins!

you have my sympathy.

I live in Russia and it's freezing. I remember my dot freezing in minus forty in siberia.

Just a year ago I was living in singapore. Loved that climate and really miss it

I wear all these clothes.
I look like the Michelin man, I cram on as many clothes as will possibly fit, and then get upset because I'm cold.

maybe wrong type of clothes, or you have a circulation issue?

Merino wool thermals.
Soft and warm.

I'm just cold.

Unless I can live in a duvet I'm cold.
No amount of clothes helps, no matter what the clothes are helps.
I'm just cold all the time.
I feel this in summer too, but it's easier because it's slightly less freezing all the time.

Are you underweight? A friend of mine has lost too much a LOT of weight, and is now permanently freezing.

What is your BMI?

If you are wearing as many layers / hat / scarf / gloves etc
as people suggest above and are still cold all the time I would go to the GP.

muggglewump · 03/11/2010 21:47

I've just lost a wee bit too much weight, but that's because I was in hospital.
I'm doing what I can to put it back on, so it's not an underweight issue.
I am just cold all the time, I hate it, and it makes me so unhappy.
It's silly, I know it's silly, but I feel so upset at being cold.

OK - about the weight - if you are still underweight then it could be the weight ... or if you have always been a bit of a "cauld tattie" then it could be making things worse.

If you've truly tried everything that's been suggested and none of it makes any difference, why don't you go back to the medics and get it checked out? You are definitely not being unreasonable to hate feeling the cold!

Do the hoovering
Wash dishes with really warm water
Hot drinks

These 3 always warm me up.

how about those little bag things that warm up in the microwave? can hold in your pockets when go out in the cold?

Trip to GP may be in order if you are wearing all the layers suggested in the thread and can never get warm.
