Mecca Bingo ad Nasty horrible gender stereo-typing.

If we swapped it over and had men saying they'd get a "gorgeous cleaner to come every day" or a bath that ran or they'd spend their winnings getting their wife in shape there'd be an outcry.

And before anyone says, yes I do know it's just an ad - but it's the casual reinforcement of sexism that rankles and needs challenging.

I thought the comic point of the first and third comments was that the fantasies of the women are actually adapted men's stereotypical fantasies. So its actually sending up how shallow men are.

The chocolate thing is so obvious that its supposed to be a womans fantasy (ie chocolate is better than sex)

But the comments are so overtly based on preconceived gender preferences that the audience are totally aware exist, that would not be funny to anyone.I think it is trying to send up these stereotypical preferences. Because I don't see it as funny if its meant to be taken straight; i.e. the women don't actually want to have those choices.

The question they are trying to get the female viewer to ask is what would you want that would actually be meaningful?

I dont think its a very successful ad anyway.

I think that the ad is offensive to TV in general.

Whoever came up with that trite should be shot.

And if it was a mnetter- Shame on you!!!

I don't know about ads for bingo but seems like a lot of ads are offensive to men at the moment. They seem to be cast as the slightly thicko character, hopelessly at sea until the woman/kids introduce him to the 'product' so simple even he can understand/use/enjoy it.

Fewer lazy stereotypes all round, perhaps?

Boring ad.

If you need humour then the new M&Ms advert has me giggling every time I see it.

The ones that I really think are sexist are Cillit Bang and Iceland!

The Cillit Bang one is the worst...we asked 100 women blah, blah.....and the Iceland one...."That's why Mum's go to Iceland" Bleugh....

All ads are sexist. They use the lowest common denomenator stereotypical shortcuts to get their message across in the least possible time.

men are seen as bumbling fools, women as cleaning obsessed thicko's
