Allergies and intolerances

What could be causing this.

First of all, a bit of history to DD's intolerance to milk protein.

DD wasn't diagnosed until she was ten months old - she is now 19 months - by which point she was passing blood and mucus, and not much else, several times a day.

She hadn't eaten any solids for a month previous to her diagnosis either, other than the occassional yoghurt and was losing weight, was pale and lethargic.

She had horrendous nappy rash which bled when ever her bottom was cleaned and projectile vomitted her bottle a good few times.

Within 24 hours of her being diagnosed as milk protein intolerant and stopping all dairy in her diet, the nappy rash had 90% disappeared and she began to get better and better each day.

It's now six months since her last reaction to dairy, when some wise idiotic person (DH) didn't think that Mini Cheddars would have milk in and told someone she could have a couple. Anyway, we are due to try her on the offending article again this month, but I am nervous doing so as for the past couple of weeks her nappies have slowly been getting mucusy again and her appetite has dropped somewhat (although I don't know if this is related or just her becoming a faddy toddler).

I'm going to call her dietician on Monday to discuss the best course of action, but just wondered if anyone out there had had any similar experiences and if so, what the outcome was. I guess I'm concerned that she is becoming soya intolerant too.

Thanks.

Thanks Momma - I'll let you know what the dietician says. Poor you having to eliminate all those things from your diet.

Right - the dietician has said to go ahead and try her with the dairy and to see the GP if the mucus doesn't clear up. As we are certain that she has had no dairy, the dietician said we should check with the GP that there's nothing else causing it.

I'll get some Mini Cheddars (the last thing she reacted to) and see how she does. Dietician thinks it is fairly unlikely that she has developed a intollerence to soya as it has been so long since she started having it (almost a year).

Thanks. She is teething (aren't they always?) so it's probably that. I'm relieved that the dietician isn't concerned about other allergies.

I'll report back on our progress.

Thanks for your support and advice. I think I'll take her to the GP for a checkup before I try the Mini Cheddars. It's just so confusing.....

II tried the dairy in the end. The effect isn't as bad at last time but is definitely there, so we've stopped again.

DD has a doctor's appointment tomorrow so I'll see what she says.

The GP was pretty good and took me seriously, thankfully.

She's asked me to observe DD for the next two weeks and to not give her any dairy at all (she agreed with me that the dietician shouldn't really be advising us to try dairy when she already has mucus).

I've an appointment to go back in two weeks. If DD is still symptomatic the GP will get in touch with DD's consultant and they will take it from there.
