Does this sound like an allergic reaction?

Something slightly odd happened at lunchtime today with my 9 month old ds and I'm just wondering if there is a possibility it's an allergic reaction. We were eating home-made houmous (ie chickpeas/sesame) which he's never had before).
Basically he suddenly went very drowsy, head lolling, etc, as if he was falling asleep. I got him out of his highchair and blew on his face etc to bring him round, which took a few minutes, and he's been fine ever since.
It may be nothing, it's just a bit unusual for him - doesn't tend to sleep during meals! I know nothing at all about allergies....

I had a similar scare when my ds3 was about 9 months - I was giving him egg (for the 1st time) and his eyes rolled back and he went floppy. It took about 1 minute for him to come round (maybe even less) but I wizzed him up to the DR. I had given ds3 some ibuprofen earlier for teething probs and a slight temp and dr was satisfied that the 'fit' was just him coming 'out' of the temperatue drop that the ibuporfen causes - his temp would have shot back up and his little brain needed time to ajust. He's never had a prob since (he's now 8)

Sesame allergy is becoming increasingly common. Allergic reactions can cause a drop in blood pressure which could have made him look drowsy. I wouldn't give him any more sesame meantime and speak to your doctor on Monday, or take him to the emergency doctor or A&E if it happens again. I'd also keep some antihistamine (suitable for his age) handy just in case he has a more serious reaction.

KAthy, please be careful with nuts too. Many children who are allergic to nuts are also allergic to sesame. So, if you have not introduced nuts yet, watch out

He has had cashew nuts, walnuts and hazelnuts, but not peanuts. But DH pointed out he has actually had sesame oil in stir fries. Am going to take him to the doctor, anyhow, and meantime be very very careful.

He could just have been sleepy - it's not uncommon for them to fall asleep in their dinner!

My ds2 took a rash after eating humous, been tested now and he is allergic to sesame. My dd is allergic to peanut and carries an epipen...on her info it says that drowsiness...decrease of consciousness should be treated with epipen...it's a dangerous symptom so might be worth testing.
