Milk ladder and CMPI

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of doing the 'milk ladder' with a toddler who has Cmpi? Dd is almost 15 months, and I discovered she had cmpi at about 7 months. At her year check with the dietician, she said i should gradually reintroduce cows milk to get her used to it. I tried giving her milk biscuits but she had really awful nappies and got terrible eczema so I stopped. She still has terrible eczema and awful nappies, but I think the nappies might be due to soya and almond milk I'm giving her, as they both are high in fibre.

I'm a bit lost about what to do. I also read that milks other than cows milk shouldn't be given as a main drink before 2, but I don't bf anymore and was advised to stop giving her formule. Should I try the milk ladder again? Has anyone had success with it?

Many thanks

Hi. I use Oatly milk after ending breastfeeding on dietician's advice.
When we started milk ladder I gave just a crumb of a malted milk biscuit first, building up to a quarter a few times a week, then a 1/4 every day until we got to a whole biscuit. Took months. Now on next stage.

We did it, assuming you mean gradually reintroducing to see how your DD gets on.

It was fine at first but after getting to milk with cereal it all went wrong. It is good though, now I now what DS can cope with we have much more food freedom.

As far as a substitute, we use Alpro +1 soy milk, which if your DD can tolerate is great. It's fortified with vitamins and minerals and can be bought in most decent sized supermarkets. However it's not cheap, so as an alternative you could mix unsweetened soy milk with a wee bit of apple juice and some children's multivits.

Good luck OP

Also forgot to say, we did milk ladder at one and then again every three months since (DS is now nearly two), we got a wee bit further with it every time.

And the Alpro is fine from 1.

And looking at other milks, rice milk is bad (arsenic build up) and nut based milks can be a bit iffy with kids with allergies. We had to avoid it completely cos I have a nut allergy.

Sorry to bang on, but it took me ages to get us sorted so I can be a bit of an oversharer Smile

I haven't done a ladder. I didn't diagnose DD until she was 5. So we could talk about symptoms.
Soy is a known likely culprit if intolerant to CMP. So we use Oatly milk. She is symptomatic of being Soy intolerant as well.

My DD can manage a little cheese, chocolate, home baking with butter.
She maintains solid stools and has no 'itchy bottom' symptoms.

But anything liquid is game over. Exploding poo and tummy ache. And the ever present itchy bottom.
So absolutely no yoghurt, milk, ice cream etc. No yorkshire puddings or white/cheese sauce out and about.

At home, I cook everything with Oatly. It is brilliant stuff. I bake, make lasagne, pancakes, custard. No one even notices.

I decided to not bother reintroducing. Her father is the same and it is a known genetic pass down father to daughter.
When she was under the pediatrician at Kings London, she was anemic. I figured she would also be lacking other nutrients which they didn't test for so I keep her off milk.

Go with your gut!
