At what age did your LO do their first food challenge?

DD had her first allergy appointment at St Mary's in London in January after being referred from our local hospital. The Dr told us she would have a baked egg challenge shortly. When we got a letter surmising the appointment there was no mention of the bakes egg challenge so I rang the hospital. We were told to wait another month, then another month and then they said she will have it before her next appointment which is late May. Today they rang to say she can only have after her May appointment and then we may go back on the waiting list which is another 3 months. So the wait in total could be 9 months, by which timw she will be 18 months.

I know I shouldn't moan, the NHS is amazing, but it seems like a heck of a wait. The Dr said to us they would do the challene quickly as it can help with outgrowing an egg allergy, although I know it's not guarenteed.

I'm interested in how old your LOs were when they did a food challenge and how you found the challenge, was it daunting?
Thanks!

you do have to wait some time for a food challenge appointment, we had to wait over 6 months and had one done for our daughter last month.
our son had his first challenge at 7 and passed to baked/cooked egg but not raw.
His first appointment after referral from gp was at 18 months and we felt lucky as we only had to wait 8 months for that as we had been told the wait was 8 months -18 months!!! That was some years ago and the wait time for 1st appointment is 8-10 weeks.

We have had lots of food challenges over the years due to a long allergy list and my son had his last ever appointment at st marys last month!

Ds1:

18mo milk - failed

3yrs milk- passed

6 years peanuts - passed

7 yrs celery - passed

a 3-6mo wait between deciding to do a challenge and it actually happening is usual around here.
