Allergies and intolerances

Can somebody tell me the symptoms of wheat intolerance?

I have been milk (casein I think) for many years. I gave up eating bread when I was doing WW, but re-introduced it after I hit my weight target. Since then I have felt nauseous, extremely bloated, dizzy and have even had migraines. Could there be a link do you think? No-one in the house has been ill except me so unlikely to be a virus, and also it went for a few days then came back after I ate a sarnie.

Is it likely?

I felt bloated on wheat. Also my apetite seemed to career around. I used to have asthma and excema as well as constantly itchy eyes and runny nose. It all went when I gave up wheat and dairy.

Bread is the only thintg which is hard to replace. Spelt flour is great though.

Your symptoms might be wheat intolerance, but could be coeliac disease.

From \link{http://www.coeliac.co.uk/Coeliac Society}:

"Coeliac patients may be acutely and severely ill with weight loss, vomiting and diarrhoea or they may have chronic almost trivial symptoms such as tiredness, lethargy and breathlessness. Usual symptoms would be somewhere between these extremes. Adults may have a history of abdominal or intestinal upsets, or they may suddenly develop the condition at any time. Amaemia, abdominal discomfort, mouth ulcers and weight loss are common features. A Coeliac baby would be fit and well until after the introduction of gluten-containing solids. Then the baby would develop typical pale, bulky, offensive-smelling stools, become miserable and lethargic and generally fail to thrive. All the symptoms described can be characteristic of other medical conditions, so people should not jump to conclusions but should seek proper medical advice. They should not treat themselves with a gluten-free diet before seeking medical help. Some people are diagnosed as Coeliac without having obvious symptoms. For example, the condition may be picked up when relatives of a Coeliac are being studied."

If you feel you might have coeliac disease, the first stage is a blood test which your GP can arrange.

I have lost weight recently but have been on WW, so hard tp tell... have seemed to lose more since eating more though- and the breathlessness adds up, so may see GP. Thanks for that!

I recently had an allergy to wheat confirmed with a skin test. Symptoms are different though, but allergies can produce differenct symptoms.
