Celebration Court Day

Hello - I am close the end of the adoption order court thing (today it may be finalised) and I was wondering if there was a resource for finding the celebration courts for when the order goes through? Or if anyone has any recommendations for the fun court days I've been hearing about? Thanks!

We're some time ago, but we didn't get any choice. It had to be the court that had dealt with the care proceedings.

It's the court that granted the adoption order unless you wrote an additional letter requesting another court in with your application....

Thanks. Don't think that's the case especially with out of county adoptions. Perhaps if you've done it all through the LA it's easier to stick to the same court but we didn't. We have been told we can pick our own court as the court that did the care proceedings is hours away. We have also been told certain courts make a bigger fuss of it all so we're hoping to find one of those! Our family are spread along the south coast so local isn't necessary and our local court is a crown court and they don't do them. Thanks anyway.

We're in the process of just waiting for our initial hearing but have been told celebration hearing is the same court. We had to choose which court to hear the adoption order at in the first instance so everything is done through whichever court you specified on the application.

No again that's not right at least not in our case or in our friends cases. Our proceedings had to be heard in the court that did the original placement order so we are choosing a court closer to us for the celebration. I can't imagine people that adopt at the opposite ends of the country are expected to travel back to the original courts hours away from them.

Thanks anyway I'll just see what information I can find elsewhere.

Our celebration hearing is to be held at a court of our choice, (which isn't the court which heard the hearings leading up to/granting the adoption order)

Not sure there is a resource that tells you about then however.

You could call a couple of courts and ask what they do during a celebration heating.... Get a feel for them?

Tsfp, we have been told the same as you with out of county adoption. All the official stuff goes on in the county where children came from, but the pronouncement celebration one can be your local court, or wherever you choose I guess. Don't know about any good ones tho!

As I said in my earlier post it is at a court of your choosing but this is specified on the adoption order application form. I'm pretty certain you don't choose after the adoption order is granted.

We went through a different court than the one that heard the initial care proceedings. Chosen on the basis of close but not too close (given that the birth parents are informed which court is hearing the application) and a short waiting list. It's not a glamorous place (think sixties council office style) so no photos of DC wearing the judge's wig sitting in his chair, as per some friends, but it did the job Smile

You can apply to any court for the order but the court that dealt with the case proceedings is recommended for a few reasons Inc that BP are informed of that court date and you probably don't want them knowing where you are .

The celebration hearing can be held at a different court and this is usually said when you put in your application
