Adoption Disruption Study - Results Released

The promised comprehensive research study into the rates of disruption post adoption order in the UK has been completed and the report released.

Normally I would read everything and then summarise the results for you, but in this case 'comprehensive' means over 300 pages, and I'm barely 30 pages in so far. Sorry!

If you want to take a look, it's here - www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/301889/Final_Report_-_3rd_April_2014v2.pdf

Ooh, bedtime reading Grin

Thanks Lilka, it looks fascinating. I would love to work in the adoption policy team...

I've cheated and started half way through - read the interviews with the parents, leaving the children for tomorrow! Very interesting, very comprehensive and sympathetic report. Will it change anything?

I couldn't sleep, so started reading last night.

It's interesting that younger children seem to spend the most time from being taken into care to getting adopted. I am, sadly, not surprised that older children are more likely to experience disrupted placements. I am also not surprised at the comments re: lack of post placement/adoption support, especially when a child is adopted from a differing LA to the one they now live on.

I really hope that this study has an impact on speeding up the process. A friend who works in a LAC team was telling me a baby was taken into care at birth and a simple mistake in paperwork made meant the baby's adoptive placement was delayed by 6 months. Not acceptable!
