We're spending New Year's Eve in but are all Wii-ed out and have had enough of trivia and cards. Looking for new ideas to keep the whole family entertained or any interesting new year traditions to share

We do a Treasure Hunt. This means that one person (me) organises it. I do a hunt for each person, including DH, with clues appropriate to their age. First priority is some treasure, which may mean shopping. Then you have to lay a trail of clues from the starting point leading to each treasure. Running up and down stairs between clues is a must. Generally, I would allow way more than a day to prepare, but a good short-order idea for clues is to take photos of household stuff from weird angles, print them out and use them as clues as to where to find the next clue, IYKWIM?
If you decide to do it, it is essential to (privately) backtrack over each individual hunt to check that the clues are in the right order before yelling "Go" and letting the fun commence. Also, as clues will be hidden underneath/behind household items, FFS, don't let the man in your life do any cleaning - OK, that is superfluity
