Magnatiles, playmags or magformers

If I was spending approx £20-30 on these for a 3 yo boy who I think doesn't already have any - which would you recommend as a starter set? Is one the "best brand" or are they much of a muchness?

Also say if they are rubbish - they look ace!

I'm buying on Amazon if that makes a difference to your suggestion.

We've gone for Magformers. Ds2 had asked for magnetic polydrons but they are mega $$$ here so gone for the cheaper version of Magformers which look just as good.

I've had a play and they are awesome.

I looked at magnatiles as well and know a few people who rave about them but they are also quite expensive here and could only get one or the other. I went for the Magformers as it is the closest thing to what he has asked for.

Playmags are the same as magnatiles as far as I'm aware but a lot of reviews stating that they are a bit more flimsy and random sizes so can't really add to them like you can with magnatiles. Picassotiles are meant to be good though and can connect to magnatiles.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either Magformers or magnatiles.

Is Amazon the most competitively priced for Magformers?

I recently bought my son playmags and he absolutely loves them, plays with them all of the time and makes some amazing constructions!

We've got magmagic and they are brilliant. The set with the wheels is very versatile. I got it in the Amazon sale in July, but see the price is nearly £40 at the moment, so maybe a bit pricey.
