Too old for an Elf?

This year will be my 4th year doing the elf on the shelf, I have 3 DC, I'm wondering what age is too old to be believing in elves! DS is 9 now and a few people have commented he's a bit old, I don't want his friends at school taking the piss out of him for believing a soft toy comes to life at night! So should I carry on until he says otherwise or sit him down and explain but involve him in the organisation?

Once the elf goes though its only a tiny step away from not believing in Father Christmas sob

I reckon 9 is about the limit-you may get away with it this year but it will probably be his last-how old are your other dc?

First time elf on shelf this year and my DS's are 7 and 9. Thought maybe get away with it this year and then he can help me with mischief next year.

Have seen something on Pinterest using stormtroopers instead of elfs. May try that next year as a bit of fun!

I believed until I was twelve. At nine certainly everyone around me still believed, I think ten or eleven was average age people stopped. I'd say you could get away with elfy this year.

Other DC are 3 and 10 months, I'm gonna try and carry it on this year but will have to rethink next year.

He loves the elves I'll be so disappointed when he knows! There was already a child at school telling them all Santa wasn't real last year, seems to be getting earlier and earlier I think I was about 12 too.

he may be sad if you tell him the truth, lots of kids feel sad once the magic is over - my dn foud out at 10 and told my db she wished he hadn't told her! We started this last year but dont intend to do it every year- they know their friends don't get elves so I say Santa watches some kids and sends elves to others and it changes every year. That way when they disappear hopefully its no big deal.
