I'm hoping the lovely mumsnetters can give me some inspiration for presents for my 2.6 yo son. What will you be buying or asking relatives to buy? We havent bought presents for ds in the past as we thought he would be too little to care and just took the glory for expensive toy kitchens bought by grandparents etc!

Need ideas for wish list and present from us.

Hi my son is 2.5 and will be getting;

books

Thomas take-along little trains - the ones that link up magnetically to ones he already has

mini cooper ride on with battery

tricycle

balance bike (£14 on amazon - bargain!)

postman pat train

New PJs (he likes his PJs)

All bought already in various sales! Am sute I will get a few more bits...!

indiewitch · 14/10/2010 21:56

Mini micro scooter, but they're expensive aren't they? Are they worth the money?
Also new rucksack, lunchbox, pyjamas, disney dvds.

AuntieBulgaria · 14/10/2010 22:13

Indiewitch - it took dd 3.1 a couple of weeks to get the hang of scooting, but it's reduced the average journey time to the childminders', to the the park and to the shop down the road from 20 minute ambles to an 8 minute pelt, I actually have to jog to keep up.

smugtandemfeeder · 14/10/2010 22:49

the wooden bus sounds right up my sons street, he loves anything with wheels so would love the wooden diggers. We have hundreds of orange plastic diggers but he never tires so might be time to cull them and excite him with some new wooden ones. The balance bike sounds fab, is it still on amazon? £14 is a fab price. Hadn't thought of playdoh but will def add that.to list.

He already has a small size ride on wheely bug, was thinking of asking for the bigger size but not sure if that is exciting enough as he already has one? could chose a different animal?

having nightmares imagining running after my slightly crazy toddler racing away from me on a microscooter. He would LOVE it, but would I??!

I love the way they all have individual obsessions at this age. So cute. DS has a varied collection of toys but only plays with wheeled objects and hoovers...

Omarama · 14/10/2010 22:55

My 3 year old ds LOVES his mini micro scooter, his balance bike, his ride on John Deere tractor (totally recommend) his wooden train set, any Lego, jigsaws and a car mat from John lewis

twirlymum · 14/10/2010 22:55

My 3.7 year old ds will be over the moon with anything from Toy Story 3. Or Star Wars.

Omarama · 14/10/2010 22:57

Also get some playdoh and some play saucepans from Ikea and you may find he loves the kitchen after all!

Jbck · 14/10/2010 22:59

DD2 3.1 at Xmas is getting lots of girly stuff but the only thing she has asked Santa for is a supermarket trolley. I've got her one with lots of little play foods, a basket so DD1 can play too and a cash register. You say he likes wheels and it's an indoors, rubbish weather toy.

All the children at nursery love them, they've got about 4 in a room of no more than 10 kids.

PurpleZombiesOnABloodyPillow · 14/10/2010 23:00

I haven't got a clue what to get my new dd 3.2 yrs, she only came to live with us 2 weeks ago and came with so many toys etc.

Any ideas gratefully recieved Grin

decapitatedladybird · 14/10/2010 23:05

So far I have bought our 2.9 yr old:

a big peppa pig jigsaw from elc.

Also elc, a pink piano with stool & mic, currently £25 in the sale but I have picked up an unwanted gift on Ebay, collection only on Ebay for £5.

The disney store have 3 wheel scooters - mini mouse (massive obsession with mini right now)

A princess tea pot from tesco direct.

A bath toy fishing rid & fish - bargin £3 in TKmax.

smugtandemfeeder · 14/10/2010 23:06

oh goodness they make toy metal shopping.trolleys.trolley madness I am ridiculously excited by it. And all the other wheeled ideas!

OP posts:
monkey9237 · 14/10/2010 23:07

Had a quick look on amazon and the £14 balance bike is no more, but they had some for £25. You could look at tesco direct and argos too?

And Oh yes, the john deere tractor is great, my son loves his too. And the Cosy Coupe.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/10/2010 23:13

My DS (2 1/2 by Christmas) is getting a kitchen and some bits and pieces to go with it. I've also bought some books, Orchard toy games and some Thomas accessories to go with his wooden train set (which he loves).

reddaisy · 14/10/2010 23:17

Purple Congrats on your new dd.

How exciting to be looking forward to your first Christmas together. Could you get her a large item that you can add to over time like a doll's house/Ikea kitchen or something along these lines?

smugtandemfeeder · 14/10/2010 23:22

Oh gosh, wishing I hadn't.googled the tractor. I now need a bigger home.

OP posts:
DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/10/2010 23:39

Smugtandemfeeder - does your ds have a wooden train set? Lots of good starter sets around and loads of accessories available to expand on it over time.

Purple - congrats! My niece just turned 3 and she loves Peppa Pig toys and the play shop and till she got for her birthday.

Omarama · 15/10/2010 00:16

The John Deere tractor comes in different sizes, ours is quite small only a big bigger than a large wheelybug.
(my ds not interested in the wheelybug sadly so might wrap it up for dd!)

seaturtle · 15/10/2010 01:03

DS (2.5) loves Peppa Pig, so am thinking of getting him the set in ELC which has Grandpa Pig's train (his favourite), Miss Rabbit's helicopter and the duck pond. Either that or some Happyland stuff, which is on sale at the moment.

And a stocking with things like PlayDoh, set of Peppa figures, little books and cars.

purplearmadillo · 15/10/2010 01:07

DS is 2.8. His obsession is fireman sam and fire engines, so he is getting the pintoy fire station from us and the fire engine and fireman from his grandparents/great grandmother. I love the fire station because its kind of like a boy's dolls house, and DS actually likes playing with dolls houses more than DD ever did.

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 01:12

some great ideas here!
We are getting DS a balance bike for his birthday, just prior to Christmas. For Christmas, he'll probably get a scooter. He's also getting a set of football goals (he loves his football!) and I haven't really thought beyond that at this stage.
Although I would like to get him a toy kitchen and some play food to go with the kitchen utensil set I got him a short while ago; and no doubt he'll get some more books and some paints and things.

Things I don't want to get him are:
any more plastic animals
any more stuffed toys
any more cars
He already has loads of these!
