Hopefully we can go back to an ordinary tale of country folk?

Spoilers are frowned upon.... There's a thread for that.

I think it's more complex than that with Rob. I think he loves his son but because his idea of love is very warped he would inevitably end up damaging him. I too felt sympathy for him in that scene. I hope that scenes like that are to demonstrate the complexites of human beings , rather than an attempt to gradually rehabilitate Rob in the listeners imagination.

TheAntiBoop · 25/09/2016 21:52

Agree birds

It's too simplistic to say all his actions are framed from his warped view. It could also be an interesting discussion point about the rights of a child to have a relationship with a father who is 'bad'. Is it possible for knob to be rehabilitated as a father so he doesn't end up like Bruce?

They can never realistically make knob a 'good' character but they could round the edges. We can't just have him pouring evil over evil on every situation

TopazRocks · 25/09/2016 22:00

Yeah, we have to remember Knob can be pleasant and charming when it suits him. That's how he pulled the wool over so many sets of eyes. I did like hearing Tony telling him what's what, and knob sounding just a bit unsure though. I agree it's the idea of Myson that he likes. And possibly he's a bit intrigued by his own flesh and blood, but as soon as it's a bit tough he'll be back to his Knobways. Like he was with Henry.

Did Henry actually see Rob tonight? I wasn't sure he did, or was it just H wanting to see 'Daddy'?

TopazRocks · 25/09/2016 22:03

ibrowse, to channel Jazzer, whit's rang wae sayin' couch? Grin I've got myself parked on a couch as I type.

MephistoMarley · 25/09/2016 22:04

Rob does love myson. He will be an abusive father as myson grows up as he wont tolerate any deviation from the script or signs of independent thought but that doesn't mean he doesn't love him now.

MissPattie · 25/09/2016 22:07

I did not feel one jot of sympathy for Rob. Oh boo hoo, he doesn't know how to change a nappy. Tough shit (literally). He held Helen down and raped her on numerous occasions.
His difficulties are but a butterflies trump.

And his attempt to call Arsula was a brilliant example about how he does not think the rules apply to him.

Well done Tony, though. He finally seems to understand that he cannot give Knob and inch.

TopazRocks · 25/09/2016 22:11

You do wonder how unpleasant it would be for a man who's had a stoma for several months to change a small BF baby's nappy. Obvs he does have to learn how to do it, which way round to put the nappy, to do it quickly so Myson doesn't pee in this face. IME small boy only has to pee once in your face and hair before you become very sneaky and quick with the nappy change. Smile

TopazRocks · 25/09/2016 22:12

Mind you, maybe his mother does his stoma care. Shock

MissPattie · 25/09/2016 22:12

theAntiBoop could you put the Ee gossip on the spoilers thread?

Pretty please?

TheAntiBoop · 25/09/2016 22:12

I feel like the mistake at the end of your post is an innuendo but can't quite get there in my mind. Thankfully!!

Tony was like this with rob over the tables in the cafe. His character just went off piste a few times to suit the plot.

I thought Tony was fair to rob but I also think it's odd he was the supervisor of the contact.

And the sw need to have a little chat with the parent of a 4mth old and the parent of a 5.5yr old. Henry is getting beyond a joke now in his portrayal. At least they haven't made him forget knob though as that would have been weird.

MissPattie · 25/09/2016 22:13

topaz Grin

TheAntiBoop · 25/09/2016 22:13

If you look on the daily mail side bar of shame they reference it. It's not that exciting!! I only read it because I wondered if soc would be mentioned!!

ManaFleet · 25/09/2016 22:14

My first Archers thread. I'm pretty excited...

MissPattie · 25/09/2016 22:14

Indeed a 5.5 year old talking like a 3 year old is getting on my wick.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/09/2016 22:15

Scones are Scottish. In Scotland we say scone/gone. QED.

MissPattie · 25/09/2016 22:15

the AntiBoop thank you.

I will toddle off to the Fail and have a good rummage. Then have a shower.

R4 · 25/09/2016 22:18

Rob likes the theory of MySon - he read up on baby development - but doesn't have a clue about the reality - never thought about changing nappies. He likes milestones to tick off but cannot cope with the concept of an autonomous baby who will pee, poop or puke when it feels like it.

MissPattie · 25/09/2016 22:20

Just had a look.

FFS SOC!

TheAntiBoop · 25/09/2016 22:30

Is that outrageous then pattie?

Rob overplayed his hand with Helen. He didn't really think it all through as he ramped up the abuse. Ultimately he wanted a woman at home who would do all the caring for his child. He clearly grew up in a house where the dad didn't do any so has no idea.

It would be nice if they tried to break the model for jack. Not saying he has to become dad of the year but maybe have that eye opening 'how could my father treat me that way'. But not too much. Don't want Helen going back to him!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/09/2016 22:39

I haven't watched EE for over 20 years, so no idea what SOC could do to cause outrage. Maybe kill off half the cast as a herd of lost cows thunder through walford market?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/09/2016 22:40

Betjeman didn't allow for the legitimate use of regional accent or dialect, TBF.

DadDadDad · 25/09/2016 22:42

Mana - welcome! The more the merrier. Archers

What brought you to this thread?

TopazRocks · 25/09/2016 22:43

AntiBoop, is it 'overplaying one's hand' when an abuser injures or even kills their victim? I don't think you can say an abuser overplays things - isn't abuse just abuse? And I for one would be annoyed if Knob suddenly had a change of behaviour. Because, for one, he still cannot admit to anyone he has done anything wrong, so how can his behaviour change?

TheAntiBoop · 25/09/2016 22:45

Oh wouldn't it be excellent if doc poached graham Harvey and totally trashed EE by bringing in farming sl

Speaking of which, was stuck in the middle of a conversation about robotic milking parlours and how amazing they are as both had just found out about them. I was like 'that's soooo 2014, yawn' and then remembered I live in a city and I don't know anyone else who admits to listening to the archers (except my dad)

ibrowze · 25/09/2016 22:49

TopazRocks nowt wrong wi'it unless you're a snob like meWink . I don't like how it sounds as though it's hiding something when the opposite is true (apart from crumbs under the cushions). Better than settee tho which I just don't like even though it's possibly an Indian take on settle which I like to do in the evening. It's got to be sofa for me.
