Our rating:

When it comes to any sort of maternity wear, comfort is always key - but in no other maternity garment is this more important than the maternity legging. As many a Mumsnetter will tell you, the best maternity leggings will fit you throughout pregnancy, provide a comfortable support around your bump and go with any outfit from work wear to dresses and loungewear.

As one of Mumsnet users' favourite maternity and childrenswear brands, we selected the JoJo Maman Bébé Supersoft Maternity Leggings to see how they measured up day-to-day with busy mum-to-be Tara, who put them through their paces for several weeks over her second trimester with a twin pregnancy. Here's what she thought.

The leggings are really comfortable. Especially around the bump as I’ve found with other brands the band can be a bit tight. Lots of room for movement which is perfect for my job.

Our verdict

Scoring 5 stars across the board with Tara for comfort, stylishness, practicality, value for money and sizing accuracy, these maternity leggings from JoJo are among the best you can buy.

Made with comfort and practicality in mind, they feature a wide, elasticated jersey waistband which fits nicely over your bump without being too restrictive, and can also be folded down underneath if that's comfier. The supersoft material isn't see-through and while it's not recommended to tumble dry the leggings, Tara found that they air-dried within a day anyway due to the lightweight materials.

Best of all, they're only £24.50 so definitely worth a consideration if you're in the market for maternity wear essentials.

What is the sizing like?

Although the leggings are only available in S, M or L (10 - 18) Tara reported the sizing to be 'perfect, with a lot more room for me to to grow' and added that she would definitely 'continue to wear throughout [her] pregnancy.'

The leggings look great - they don't look like maternity leggings once on either, which is a bonus! They are the best maternity leggings I've tried.

Are the leggings suitable for postnatal use?

Although they aren't billed as postnatal leggings, maternity leggings like these can be a godsend during the first few months post-pregnancy as your body adapts and jeans are the last thing on your mind. Tara said that she would certainly continue to wear these leggings after pregnancy if they still fitted comfortably.

I love these maternity leggings. I wear them at least three times a week and will continue to do so throughout my pregnancy. They are so easy to style with any outfit, are appropriate for my workplace and overall they are just so comfy!

How do you wash the leggings?

JoJo recommends you wash the leggings on a delicate setting at 40 degrees, and they aren't recommended for tumble drying. 'They wash really well,' reported Tara, 'they haven't discoloured at all and I've washed them quite a few times. They dry within a day too/ overnight as they aren't too thick.'

Are they good value for money?

The question of how much to spend on maternity clothes can be a bit of a divisive one on the Mumsnet boards - with some arguing that it's pointless to spend too much and others pointing out a preference for a few staple pieces. Luckily, at just £24.50, these leggings aren't too expensive, but the quality is high enough so that they don't feel too cheap. And if there's one item of clothing which you're likely to wear throughout an entire pregnancy and for several months after, it's leggings!

I do think they are good value for money - they just tick all the boxes.

Our overall verdict:

We asked Tara to rate the JoJo Supersoft Maternity Leggings for the following out of five:

Comfort: 5

Stylishness: 5

Practicality: 5

Value for Money: 5

Sizing Accuracy: 5
