LGTBQ Nation questions 'genderfluid' Brinton's conversion therapy story

Sam Brinton, currently awaiting trial for theft of a woman's suitcase:

'The red flags regarding Brinton were overwhelming and obvious to all who cared to see them. Unfortunately, some of America’s top LGBTQ+ activists and organizations were willfully blind to Brinton’s shortcomings.
...
These organizations, such as the Trevor Project and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), ignored clear warning signs and incontrovertible evidence because Brinton provided these groups with a seemingly perfect ex-gay survivor story to expose horrific conversion therapy practices and ideology.'

Brinton's descriptions of his experiences:

I guess this is the problem when you hold a group of people up as always being good and allow for a culture of never questioning a 'lived experience ' to flourish.

Other than that the use of they/their made that a difficult read.

ArabellaScott · 08/12/2022 21:40

Yes. It seems unlikely any of Brinton's accounts of 'conversion therapy' actually happened, going by that report.

Can't question the sacred caste.

Contrast and compare the treatment this person received to any woman ever who has been abused or assaulted.

ArabellaScott · 08/12/2022 22:15

Brinton spoke to the UN Committee Against Torture about alleged conversion therapy experiences.

Las Vegas airport has now put out a second warrant (the initial theft which he's admitted was in Minneapolis). Wonder how many times he's done it?

I respect the journalist who put this story together and who warns that giving charlatans a platform will only hurt gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. I feel the story sums up much of what has happened over the last few years.

Obvious questions not being asked, shameless lies and self-promotion overlooked, major organisations falling over themselves to recruit a poster child, no due diligence … all very familiar.

Helleofabore · 09/12/2022 07:32

How very surprising!

That article is scathing, as it should be. That Brinton lives in an era where only acceptable is tolerated and questions are violence. It has mean that Brinton was given opportunities as a poster child of whatever was going - including a role working with the Biden administration.

Sadly, we already know that some of these charismatic fantasist males tend to rise very quickly to positions of power.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 09/12/2022 07:52

Speeding into positions of influence while being completely unsuitable certainly seems to be a feature :

Is this a prelude to discrediting Sam Brinton in general and will his identity be the next thing to fall under suspicion? Do we eventually get to the point where:

He's not actually authentically genderfluid, that's just something else he lied about, he was never one of us, he needs to be cast out from under the LGBTQQIP2SAA+ umbrella.

Abhannmor · 09/12/2022 08:38

Yes...Good ploy to other him before he contaminates the brand.

Yes, that's what I got from it.

He's getting sentenced in the next couple of weeks - I think anyone who has previously supported him is doing some frantic moat-digging.

Gosh, is he an actual serial sock thief?

Who knew that stealing clothes was a fetish? (Not commenting on Brinton's case, was just googling to work out why someone might commit such a crime when they are presumably well paid).

It never ceases to amaze me how wide ranging men's fetishes are

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2022 09:12

Same. Talk about niche! Actually, maybe don't. Sad

OP posts:
Chersfrozenface · 09/12/2022 09:14

Yes, stealing clothes is a fetish.

Stealing panties off washing lines is a positive cliché.

Reader, it actually happened to me, donkeys' years ago, in a rural area.

Helleofabore · 09/12/2022 09:40

Well, wasn't the one they are getting sentenced for a very stylish suitcase?? I mean.... maybe it wasn't just about the panties. A stylish suitcase is very desirable these days and it takes a while to get that 'lived in' look that money doesn't seem to be able to buy....

Helleofabore · 09/12/2022 09:47

On the other hand, if that author 'Wayne Besen' is right, then questions about this persons experiences have been being raised for a decade. And ignored.

I have no doubt that Wayne Besen is absolutely pissed off because potentially, he has been working very hard to amplify conversion therapy survivors voices and ensuring they are supported and those therapies rightfully banned and more importantly truly eradicated.

Berthatydfil · 09/12/2022 09:48

Apparently he has spoken at bondage and spanking workshops- who knew these were a thing ?

bellinisurge · 09/12/2022 14:44

He's been caught doing it again

Theundertaker · 09/12/2022 14:47

I wonder if any of the comedian/political commentators have commented on this story at all. John Oliver, Seth Myers, Trevor Noah, etc.

There's nothing as sexy as a good workshop
