Unfortunately it still seems that many people are unsure about how to find their perfect puppy without supporting puppy farming either directly or indirectly. My response is to look for a rescue puppy. I do not care which rescue you choose but please, please, please do choose a rescue puppy.

I am a fosterer for Many Tears Animal Rescue. Over the last 2 years my family and I have been lucky enough to foster, love, socialise and commence training and ultimately rehome 122 rescue puppies. We have fosterered all breeds, crossbreeds, sizes, mixes of puppies. I shall try to post some vidoes and photos but I am not very good with 'technology'.

As I mentioned I am a volunteer fosterer for Many Tears Animal Rescue - please search their web page for available puppies and doggies. At this stage many 'unhappy/unsuccessful' applicants shall respond with negativity but that seems to be the way of the internet.

Yay for rescue!

PootlePoseysMa · 18/05/2016 20:30

Unfortunately I cannot work out how to transfer my photos of my foster puppies over. I have been fortunate enough to foster and fall in love with rescue puppies from the following breeds/crossbreeds - bichon frises, cavaliers, cavachons, cockerpoos, dashschunds, dobermans, labradors, jack russells, lurchers, golden retrievers, staffies, alsatians, german shepherds and complete utter mixes.

Please try to adopt from any rescue. Do Not Buy from A Pet Shop or Gumtree , x

I have a puppy from Many Tears (well she's not a puppy any more!). She is the most wonderful dog. A mix of breeds but just fabulous. We have two other dogs from another rescue centre and they are just the best dogs.

I wholeheartedly endorse getting a dog (not just a puppy) from a rescue centre. You are getting a dog which is just begging for a loving home at a cost vastly less than any pedigree and in the process hopefully hurting the puppy farming industry.

100%

Did anyone see the photos of the boxes at the puppy mill that were taken undercover? Coffins. Thats all the were. Angry

SavoyCabbage · 18/05/2016 20:35

Lovely dogs. And children.

We got a rescue dog from the RSPCA just before Easter.

Here she is. And one of her at the shelter. Sad

Thank you for commenting :-) Those 3 puppies in my first photo were on the drown rack at a puppy farm. Unfortunately they were 12 weeks old and (after 8 weeks become an expense more than a profit to the puppy farmer) they were stuck in tiny crates for over a month so their backs were flattened and their legs were splayed with ther sheer weight of other puppies on the drown run (I'm sure I don't need to explain futher). I so wish I could send you the video of their 'rehab' in my home - my 3 daughters throwing tennis balls and me supporting them initially until their leg muscles kicked in.

Many people ask where do Many Tears rescue their puppies from - the honest answer is the drown run from the puppy farms. That is the truth.

Sad those poor babies.

NeedACleverNN · 18/05/2016 20:55

I admire the work many tears do but I'm conflicted aswell.

By working with the puppy farms they are giving the farmers a chance to off load any worthless pups and can therefore encourage the farmers to keep breeding. Someone will be there to pick up the pieces

On the other hand I know if you don't take the pups they would be killed anyway.

I have applied to adopt one of your dogs before but unfortunatly I live too far away and I don't drive so can't get transport down to meet the dog.

I wish them all the best in the future though

Floralnomad · 18/05/2016 20:57

Well done you ,and all the other foster carers , it's something I'm going to look into doing in the future - we can't at present as our current dog ( who was a battersea puppy) is very anti social when it comes to dogs .

Wolfiefan · 18/05/2016 20:59

I spent over a year looking for a rescue that could live without another dog, with kids and also with cats. No luck.
We are going down the breeder route. It is a woman we have known for over a year. Met her through a breed club. Met her dogs. Trust her.

PacificDogwod · 18/05/2016 21:00

Forster dogs rock!

But I am in no rush for a puppy; adult dogs for me Grin

We got the MuttDog from Many Tears in 2010. We had hoped to get two from the same litter but we weren't allowed; Sylvia herself phoned me to explain why - I was very impressed with the personal touch Smile

Mutt was originally at the Rescue but was moved to foster with one of her sibs as they needed some extra attention. It also meant less of a hike for us to collect her.

Mutt has been a wonderful best mate to DD and rarely leaves her side. She really is a fantastic dog (except for her howling dramatics whenever it's time to have her nails clipped). I would echo your sentiments and urge anyone who is in the process of looking for a dog to visit a Rescue first - you may even find a 'designer breed' Wink

PootlePoseysMa · 18/05/2016 21:10

Needaclever - if MT didn't accept the puppies and unwanted breeding dogs into the rescue they would be drowned or shot. It is that simple. There is no support for the disgusting humans involved. I have been at the rescue when many 'lovely, kind, well spoken grannies' drove up in their range rovers and dumped about 35 puppies and ex breeders they no longer required. I HATED them, believe me everyone at MT HATED them but unfortunately if we don't treat 'them' as a normal humans then they just will not come - the dogs and pups get drowned. That is the truth.

I've seen it, I am disgusted by it but I will foster the helpless dogs and pups - what else can i do ?.

It should be ILLEGAL in 2016. But it isn't. Please petition your MP to BAN puppy farming, x

When we got ddiog, our youngest was 4, so we were advised to get a puppy from a reputable breeder with a breed that we have researched and fits into our family.

J adore my dog but, with hindsight, a rescue would have been absolutely fine (and better).

NeedACleverNN · 18/05/2016 21:15

I did say they would be killed anyway so I get your stuck between a rock and a hard place there.

Is puppy farming legal in Wales? I can never work that out.

IWantToLiveInPawnee · 18/05/2016 21:15

Posted too soon.

SAVOY - your dog is adorable, I love her!

CMOTDibbler · 18/05/2016 21:16

My ddog2 will be 2 on Friday. He was lucky enough to be born in foster after his mum was dumped when heavily pregnant and has been an utter delight. 21 puppies born with that rescue alone in 2 weeks that year.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/05/2016 21:23

Pootle - does Many Tears ever use fosterers in Scotland? We have a lab and a rescue lab pointer cross, and have considered, from time to time, fostering and rehabilitating puppy farm lab bitches.

We've never done this, so would want to be sure we knew what we were doing, and were going to do the best for the dog, but would love to do something to help.

PootlePoseysMa · 18/05/2016 21:24

Wolfiefan, the vast majority of the rescue puppies that Many Tears have allowed me to foster (over 120 puppies) have been adopted by a person/couple/family with children without another dog. Puppies, generally, do not need a resident dog. They are perfectly happy to be an only pet. Please try again, x If the MT person you are speaking to seems unreasonable then please ask to speak to somebody else, x

Can I ask your advice? I love dogs and have always loved dogs, but have never had one as an adult as I've always worked full time and commuted. We're now in a position to have one - my husband is at home all day and we live near lovely countryside walks. My children are still little though - 2 and almost 5. They know to be gentle with animals and we would never leave them alone, but do you think they're just too young for a puppy? I've looked at rescues but they almost never have dogs suitable for rehoming with children under 12. I'd also be happy with an older dog but would be worried that older rescues might have issues. I had a dog as a teenager (a mad soppy cocker) but I'm by no means an experienced owner.

Hope I didn't hijack your thread.

PootlePoseysMa · 18/05/2016 21:38

Yes, puppy farming is legal everywhere in the UK. Most of the disgusting, filthy, evil puppy farms are also approved by the Kennel Council - as long as the puppy farmers have paid their fees then they get the KC accreditation. It's all about the money.

Hello Hobbes,
I started fostering pups when my twin daughters were 18months old and my eldest was 4 years old. Most of the puppies that I foster are adopted by families with very young children. Puppies and young children can grow up together beautifully. To be honest, I have never fostered a puppy over 6 months old because I am just not prepared to take any chance with my daughters.
Yes, please do look for a puppy on the Many Tears website - they will not turn you down because you have young children, x

Hey thanks! I'll take a look. My daughter is a bit nervous of dogs so we're trying to raise her confidence before we take it further. There's a beautiful (and huge) old English sheepdog puppy at the school gates sometimes that she'll stroke if she's gently encouraged to and she's in the right mood, but if dogs pass us in the park she clings to my thigh.
