Staring martin Freeman

Penned by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher, this is his first original series for television and he’s on familiar ground as he focuses on the emotional extremes of life on the front line of British policing.

The Responder follows urgent response officer Chris Carson on a series of five night shifts on his beat in Liverpool.

But Chris has more than just the job to worry about as his personal life has been hit by crisis and he is morally compromised in his work.

He’s forced to take on rookie partner Rachel, but despite his reluctance they both soon realise that survival in the high-pressure world of night-time crime will hinge on whether they can support or destroy each other.

Playing Rachel Hargreaves, Carson’s new nightshift partner, is Adelayo Adedayo (Origin, Timewasters). Despite only being in the role for two weeks, the rookie cop has a clear sense of what’s right and wrong

She is disgusted that she’s been paired with a man whose attitude towards the job, and life in general, is the polar opposite of hers. But will working with Chris and under the city’s darkness change her?

I'm intrigued, I'll give it a go. DH is a "responder" and so never watches police shows, but I sent him a few excerpts from a Times article about the show today and it does have the writer saying things that are more realistic - that it's chipped mugs, not paper cups, and grotty offices, and the CCTV looks like Minecraft. Not that DH will actually watch it though Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2022 13:23

How exciting @Thurlow

He prob can’t watch as will be shouting at the tv

I have a feeling this will be a lot better than Trigger Point.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/01/2022 20:25

I really enjoyed trigger point 😂😂😂

Not sure that Martin Freeman is the right casting for this part. Seems to be perfect for Stephen Graham? Martin Freeman will always be Tim from the Office to me!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/01/2022 20:29

Oh yes Stephen from old would have been fab

As previously I still think of martin as doing the porn scene in love actually - that’s 20yrs old next year

I’ve got it on record. I’ll watch another time. Strange seeing Martin Freeman with a Scouse accent.

ENoeuf · 24/01/2022 21:08

Eek watching it now as dh wants to and I can’t cope with his accent. And his ‘serious’ face.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/01/2022 21:11

He’s aged !!!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 24/01/2022 21:15

Hmmmmm he seems a little stressed and I compassionate to wanking man

OP posts:
ENoeuf · 24/01/2022 21:17

I’m a bit confused. Is he meant to be earthy and relatable or a total arsehole? I know which way I’m leaning.

IcedPurple · 24/01/2022 21:18

It's trying very hard to show us how 'gritty' it is.

Fairyliz · 24/01/2022 21:21

God this is grim. I was feeling a bit miserable before I started watching now I’m ready to top myself.
Why are all the tv dramas so drab and downbeat nowadays? Trigger point last night was dire and surely everyone saw that ending coming? The acting is better than this but does Liverpool always want to be portrayed this way.

ENoeuf · 24/01/2022 21:22

Does he not work with anyone else or have a body cam? Why does he keep assaulting people and taking their cash?

NinaDefoe · 24/01/2022 21:25

I’m going to binge watch this tomorrow. It looks really good !

We need a thread with spoilers though - so we can discuss the story!

HazelBite · 24/01/2022 21:25

Is it just me but I cannot follow this, there doesn't seem to be a cohesive theme.

RockaLock · 24/01/2022 21:26

Well, this is disappointing so far.

I don't really understand how everyone knows each other.

I don't care about any of the characters.

I don't understand what the story/plot is supposed to be. Is there going to be one? Or is it just going to be Martin Freeman driving around being a dick to everyone?

IcedPurple · 24/01/2022 21:26
