The Fades - fantastic but canned
Heroes - ok it got a bit silly in the last series but canned - no warning
Flashforward - really good, but canned
Alcatraz - canned, I wanted to know what, how and why!
So bloody frustrating.
Falling ratings is generally the reason. TV companies will not continue to pay to commission shows that people are switching off in their droves.
But that wasn't the case with The Fades - which won awards - or with Heroes was it?
Heroes was cancelled due to decreasing ratings, IIRC. The first season was amazing but it went progressively downhill with subsequent seasons. I gave up half way through S2. Each season lost more and more viewers and it wasn't financially viable to continue to make it...particulalry as it had high production costs because of all the special effects.
I've never heard of The Fades so haven't a clue about it.
I agree re fades :-( didnt it even win a bafta or something which for a bbc 3 seems impressive. Mind you we apparently got an extra season of being human instead & i do heart hal. I
Serenity
I'll never forgive the fuckers for cancelling that one.
Terra Nova the cast were told to expect to be signed up for a second season due to amazing ratings for the finale then quietly dropped anyway.
Fades was v good.
I gave up on Heroes as it went too far.
Didn't watch Flashforward
If we include US ones can I volunteer Dollhouse.
I thought Heroes got canned because of budget cuts as it was by far the most expensive programme being made at the time.
It does suck though.
Though I'm not certain how they could have extended FlashForward to another series.
I loved Heroes, thought it was a brilliant idea but it did lose it a bit in S2 - if I remember, the writers went on strike and it was left mid series, which was pretty much the same thing which happened in Flashforward. Both would probably have gone on and on like Lost ( which I also loved!). Maybe a lot of the TV public in the US haven't got our staying power, I love having something absorbing and regular to watch. I miss Hiro and often wonder what happened to him, the Cheerleader and the divine Peter Petrelli..............
Alcatraz has been cancelled? DH won't be happy
I agree - was gutted at flash forward. I reckon it's because of Lost. I loved the first series of that but really lost interested by the end of series 2 when the story wasn't going anywhere. Never bothered with the rest of it so still don't know how it all ended and I'm not bothered - got so fed up during the second series that I am now wary of these series. The producers seem to think they're onto a good thing then try to drag it all out into further series but viewers just get fed up when they don't get any answers to questions. The Mentalist is also like this. Stopped watching after 2 series.
What they should do is write a finite set of episodes. Not see how people like it then milk it for all it's worth with the resulting load of pap that it brings...
The writers strike in the US was a national thing not just the Heroes lot, they weren't protesting at it or anything, I recall a lot of shows that year had weird breaks in them
I do miss Heroes. It's more because they'd started the next season and then that was it, left hanging. I think they will bring it back at some point
Brothers and Sisters [sob]
There were rumours of a Heroes film to finish it off and tie up the loose ends but I think that's also been knocked on the head now.
And now The Hour
<sob>
How will we ever know what happened to Freddie??
Re Fades - They couldn't afford both and now BH has been cancelled so BBC 3 can concentrate on 'new and innovative ' programmes about bridezillas , people with too much fake tan and not enough clothes and teens getting drunk on holidays
Oh ffs, I'd only just got into The hour as well. Started watching it during the second series and really loved it. Its me, I'm a jinx obviously!
The Fades was brilliant - one of the best things I've seen. Such a shame it was cancelled
Heroes deserves a film. Sylar was such a character.
Theyve cancelled The Hour? nooooooooo
Every time I get hooked on some American drama it gets cancelled. Boo. I too hope Hero and the cheerleader keep safe. Loved the hour too.
My DH watches most of these, he is definitely a curse!
I was gutted when Pan-Am got cancelled.
I'm wondering how long Nashville will last because I enjoyed the first episode, so it's bound to be shelved
I miss Prime Suspect USA, one bloody series and it was cancelled.
Boomtown from a few years ago was brilliant, then it disappeared too.
And why did Sky stop showing Rescue Me?
