Rewatching The West Wing dvds for what must be the 20th time and can't decide who would be best husband material.

Which would you chose?

Husband material? Both hopeless I would say. Ditto Leo (and I adore Leo).

Will might be reasonable husband material?

Never really took a shine to Will. Much prefered Sam.

But if you had to choose Josh or Toby?

Josh.
But not for marriage :)

Agree most of them would drive you demented if you were married to them.

But I am so hopelessly biased towards Josh that I would supress all my reservations given half a chance. One of my most-loved TV characters ever.

I think Toby is really sexy. I think it's all that angst that attracts me.

He plays a big part in one of my favourite episodes too where he arranges a funeral for a Korean veteran. I cry buckets every time.

I think Josh is a bit too manic. Would he stand still for long enough to get him into bed?

Sorry - I have given this a lot of thought.

No two-timing Toby and Josh. You can't pit them against each other. I loved the years of verbal sparring but I hated it when they fought. It was so sad how badly they had miscommunicated.

I did find it interesting when Toby pointed out that CJ had hadnt really needed a longterm relationship when she had he and Josh and Sam. Not a bad position to be in...

Love the ruffled hair, the rolled up sleeves, the forearms....

(Poor DH has had to put up with me banging on about him for YEARS. He is always like .)

Don't go in for marriage, but if we're just talking 'who would you do?' then Toby all the way. Don't like Josh's look, or the receding hairline. Toby is obscurely sexy.

Did you know Richard Schiff had a backstory in his head for why Toby was so tortured? In his head, Toby was widowed. So he left his own wedding ring on and it was only noticed when they had filmed quite a bit. Hence, they invented an ex-wife for Toby.

I love that Schiff was so invested in his character from the start. It certainly paid off in his acting.

Do you think Toby had a relationship/fling with the poet laureate? I like to think he did.

I watch and re-watch the box sets and probably do believe it's actually real.

First.

I think something developed between them ongoing from that episode, harry. I loved Josh and Toby's clueless conversation about how to attract women, and Toby's genuine sadness that he cold not claim Josh's "boyish charm." They aged Josh out of his boyish charm very convincingly during the end days of the Santos campaign. (I'd still have you though Josh. No question..)

Also, do you think as a back story CJ ever had a fling with any of them?

My theory is - Toby definitely, Josh perhaps and Sam definitely not.

I definately dont think CJ had a fling with any of them. I really liked the relationship between her and Toby, as a platonic relationship. I know she knew him way before the campaign, but he would presumably have been married then and his marriage seemed to be breaking down around the time of inauguration, from that flashback they showed. The timelines dont really work and I never got the feeling they had been involved. Obviosly loved each other very much though.

The only part where I did think Toby might be yearning for something with CJ was near the end - something about the way he was saying goodbye to her when she went to see him at the end - but his overwhelming sadness might just have been that it was all really over. Also his life was in ruins at that point. I think he was grieving the loss of everything.

And I think CJ might have found Josh very annoying if they were in a relationship together! Sam definately not

Agree with beachholiday about CJ and Toby. Lots of affection and respect but nothing more. Liked the line where she says "You want to do me right now, don't you?" and he deadpans "When don't I?"

Toby or Josh? Toby. I don't even like men with beards.

I noticed too that Toby still wears a wedding ring, and Leo.

If I HAD to chose from just those two, it would be Josh.

But seriously people... Charlie! And/or Santos.

Oh my, I fear a bank holiday Wing-fest coming on.
