Tip of the day

Don't get in a panic over Christmas. Keep a box and put a little in it every week - small gifts, wine, nibbles, napkins etc. This way, you'll be more relaxed and less skint in December! keriku

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

ASDA £8 sundresses.... I implore you to buy one !

(52 Posts)
Can I just point out that if a dress is £8 then it is very, very unlikely that the children people who made it received a fair wage.

Before everyone rushes to post that not all of us can afford fair trade clothing, do note that some people on this thread have bought 2 or 3 dresses... for the price of 2 or 3 sweatshop dresses you could buy an ethically made dress at M&S.

Here's a report on how ASDA/ WALMART use cheap labour:

I got the black spotty one last week and ordered the green and brown one online as they only had size 20 left. It arrived today and is really nice. I am usually a clothes snob blush but I promise these are genuinely lovely, nice to wear and really flattering.

I also found the straps a good couple of inches too long though and I'm 5ft 7.

I just ordered three of them online...will probably end up sending them back though!
hmmmm nope, don't like those.
I saw someone else wearing mine today (while I was wearing it of course!) but it was in M&S not Asda. Somehow that made me feel better about it. blush

*I saw a mum at school in the green one and it made her look enormous.*

Oh my god hope that wasn't me, In my defense I am preggers although not far enough along to use it as an excuse grin
They look like an acorn antiques apron
Well there you go lissie - take off the frilly bit and cut the straps to make a halterneck!
I have the red spotty one grin
Its a funny length though. And its a bit low, and the straps are a bit long. (its not me who is too tall with a short body obviously!)
Its also a bit see through. So I will have to wear big pants under it.

In precisely 1 stones time i feel sure that i can make that red spotty one look show stopping! Am going to pick it up. At £8 who cares if it gets covered in baby vom?
Saw them and liked the red spotty one. BUT I also saw too many (ok, 2) really rough-looking women in the same dress, in the same shop, at the same time and I had to put it back.

And it was the only one I really liked.

I have been betting alot of wear out of my £22 next dress though so it is true that cheaper dresses can still look great.
i love about 4 of them, but hate the rest.they dont come in my size thoughsad and the ones that do are more party dresses.i need feeding up.
grin

I ave to take most straps up as have short shoulder to bust measurement, but halternexk was easier and looks nice

ooh - geordiemix - sounds great and you've made it more individual - you've been taking lessons from gok haven't you?
I bought black and cream spotty one last week - but as I'm 5"1 it was big in a few places so cut the straps at the back to make a halter neck, and took the bottom frill off to take it to just above the knee. Much better

don't live in lancs so copy away!

though noticed a couple of other asda dresses in the school playground this morning - word has it our asda has sold out of most styles except in size 20 plus - so can no longer waft around pretending to have individual style...
Ooh, good, am 5ft 9" so these should be a good length.

You don't live in lancs though doyou domestic?
Am going to copy your accessorising too grin

weepootle - the buttons do open - on my red spotty one there are 3 which open down to the empire line band. hope that helps

Ooh that sounds lovely how you've accessorised, DomesticBlobess.

Now, tell me - do the buttons open? grin

Have the red spotty one and love it - and only £8!! Been wearing it this week with red birkenstocks and have a navy cardi to go over when it cools down a bit.

Fits well and I'd say knee length rather than calf length - i'm 5ft 8.

Get one - a great dress for about the same as a pack of nappies - bargain!

much prefer this one

Another question: are the buttons just sewn on or do they actually open? (breastfeeding)

I saw these yesterday and was just about to buy one when the roughest looking woman walked in with the one I was going to buy and put me right off (yes, I am a snob - sorry).

However, I did rather like the grean flowerey ish one so might just have to go back cause it is so sodding hot I need something cool to wear.

I likehe red spotty one but it looks like it'll be too long - fattest part of the calf as CurryMaid said.

I saw a mum at school in the green one and it made her look enormous.

I like the red spotty one but won't be buying as I think everyone will be buying the Asda dresses.
I got one the other day in anticipation of my hols and it is very flattering IMO. A total bargain.

Where do tehy come to (on a 5'2" body).

I love dresses but ATM they are all either too short (it needs to be below the knee) or too long as I am a shortarse.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 19:29:19
I love the red spotty one but they're sold out in my size. The ditsy floral one is nice too but I'm worried about the length as well, being a shortarse.

I am pleased.

I ordered a couple online yesterday and some sandals so I shall happily await their arrival.
Ignoring Ginger, have just ordered the paisley and the red spotty one
Vile smvile They're £ 8! I got the red spotty one, but am taking it back.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 18:32:11
They are really vile! All of them
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 18:31:35
ooooh me likey the red one!!
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 18:31:02
I'm not keen on that pink and brown one.
What aobut the length though? They look like they might stop at the fattest part of the calf (not a good look on me)
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 18:30:20
and this is for hte hoedown throwdown surely
I've got this one, very flattering.
Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 18:29:34
but the colour is VILE
I tried one on the other day and it looked awful on me, must be because I am a heifer grin

I love the red spotty one as well.
no it is just the right height at the back and the straps are thick enough to cover strappage
grin @ frutishoots

i shall be wearing mine with a cream shrug and bronze birkies if that helps for recognition purposes

get it online!!
Think I may go tonight when DH gets home.

Do bra straps show?
paisley one is pretty too
when we've all been out and bought one, we will be able to spot all the other mumsnetters wearing theirs, it will be like a secret mumsnetters dress code.

My Asda (which is 30 mins away) is bound to have sold out in my size by the time I get there.
Have had a look and there are some lovely ones, including the red spotty one which I saw a woman wearing the other day, it looked fab on.

I feel another supermarket clothing purchase coming on.....
can buy online too apparently
yes, very good. buy a size smaller , very roomy. very nice on.
Oh, I saw these the other day.
Are they good???
May have to make a trip....
