If anything?

We are going to Side soon and just wondered what the shopping is like?

We are going to Belek on Saturday for a week, which isn't far from Side. We went to Antalya last year but didn't go shopping at all so I can't help you!

boulie · 05/06/2014 21:20

Leather (bags etc) and gold jewellery from my experience..

Lighthousekeeping · 06/06/2014 09:49

Hammam towels for the beach

dexter73 · 06/06/2014 10:16

I like the look of the towels - will keep an eye out for one.

bigTillyMint · 06/06/2014 11:11

If you have teens, fake sportswear - Tshirts, sweatshirts and even Vans/trainers. Mine got stuff last year that is still going strongSmile

Lighthousekeeping · 06/06/2014 20:39

They are fantastic as beach towels/throws when you get home. Especially if you go to a posh craft shop and get them in a silk towelling combo. I bought them for a wedding present and my friend was over the moon. The cheap ones are really absorbent for the pool. I'm very jealous. Live Turkey.

justasecond · 06/06/2014 21:09

I have just been. Was not great where I was (Antalya) shopping wise unless you are after designer fake t shirts or bags. Some of the non designer copy leather bags were nice though. I like the pretty handpainted ceramics although they were not of the same quality as I bought in Istanbul a few years ago. The turkish delight is great though!

coffeeinbed · 06/06/2014 21:10

oh yes the towels.

TroyMcClure · 06/06/2014 21:20

Tha fake designer goods are remarkably good

MikeLitoris · 06/06/2014 21:23

We were in side last month but in a v quiet part so not much shopping.

Lots of fake trainers and tshirts. Towels and bags everywhere.

My dc bought a few pairs of beats headphones and that was about it.

TroyMcClure · 06/06/2014 21:27

The beats things were everywhere last year.

I coveted a nice crisp bowl and olive oil soap

aylesburyduck · 06/06/2014 21:33

Definitely hammam towels. Mine is looking a bit sorry for itself now having been a staple item for every holiday I've been on in the last ten years.

Also have a look at the pottery, silver jewellery and obviously the fakes. Haggle!!

Lighthousekeeping · 06/06/2014 21:35

Those beats headphones didn't last five minutes with me. If there are any independent arty shops then their jewellery is fantastic. I don't know what side is like but on dalyan there are afew artists from Istanbul that have shops. Ah, I miss it. I need to go back.

Lighthousekeeping · 06/06/2014 21:36

The knock off Celine bags are fabulous but expensive. I never bought one but was really tempted.

chocoshopoholic · 06/06/2014 21:41

I bought a handbag (fakes store-gucci on the label!) for £12. is a nice everyday leather bag that's still going strong 3 years on.

mswibble · 06/06/2014 21:48

Our plane back from Marmaris was full of everyone, young and old, wearing those Beats headphones! Dont like them myself so couldnt comment on their quality.
Heading back to Marmaris and on my shopping list is:
another hammam towel (they are v good and v cheap. Look at the prices sellers on ebay are trying to flog them for!)
Turkish lamp for a mate. We already gave two and they are stunning. M&D, and other rellies have had them too - everyone loves theirs. Resorts are far cheaper than Istanbul.
Turkish soap - lots of lovely olive oil or hammam soaps
Longchamp tote - I got a holdall last year which was fab but I accidentally shut the boot on it so on the lookout for a Tote this year. Would not pay full price in Selfridges for what is essentially a nylon bag but im ok with a tenner. Plus the obligatory fridge magnets and turkish delight!

I already have a Turkish tea set and Whirling Dervish from Istanbul. Sure I will see something thats not on my list though!

Lighthousekeeping · 06/06/2014 22:00

Which part of Marmaris do you stay in? I never think of ot as a shopping destination. Mind you I haven't been for twenty years on my last girls holiday. It was messy them so, is it still full on?

mswibble · 06/06/2014 22:08

We are staying at the Alkan again, its perfect for us as its just a pillow for the night and somewhere to fill up at breakfast.

We've been to Turgetreis and Gumbet before. Wouldnt go back there to be honest. Gumbet was far too young for me (im 28!) and although we enjoyed Turgetreis was a touch too quiet.

Marmaris is perfect for us. Lots of gorgeous restaurants up by the marina for when you want a civilised night but a nice mix of neon adorned British and Irish bars for when you're in the mood for a tacky night of singing along to Black Velvet on the karaoke. We stayed away from Bar St. We ventured up at about 5pm one day and it was already full of teenage zombies just one shot away from throwing up. Not our scene!

dexter73 · 06/06/2014 22:09

I am going to come back dripping in fake designer goods wearing a pair of Beats headphones (and a few towels for good measure!)!! Might even get a tan too! Dd wants a hookah for a 'friend' apparently Hmm

Lighthousekeeping · 06/06/2014 22:14

I adore Turkey. Two of my work colleagues have just booked on my advice ! I hope they love it as much as I do.

mswibble · 06/06/2014 22:18

My OH bought some footie tops from last year, really good quality. He bought a jersey for the local team which went down very well with the sellers, he got a bit of a discount. Plus all the lads he plays footie with are always asking him about it!

Somes fakes are atrocious but others are unbelievably fab.

fedupworking · 06/06/2014 22:43

Ugg slippers but not the ones at a fiver go for a little dearer and they last ages ,mine keep my feet nice and warm on a winters night lol, can I ask what you do with the hammam towels as I've got two stuck at the back of the cupboard and have never used them

Lighthousekeeping · 06/06/2014 22:47

Throws, bathroom mat, table cloth, dog towel a Hamman towel can be used for numerous things depending on the quality and how pretty it is.

mswibble · 06/06/2014 22:59

I use mine as hair towels and another is a bath mat!

Karbea · 07/06/2014 07:10

Wow! How exciting!
All sound fab! How much are the celine bags then?
I went to lunch with a friend yesterday and she asked me to get her a bag.
I'm really intrigued to see what it's like now!
