Shorts to wear under summer dress that don't add bulk?

I find most dresses too short when dealing with toddlers.. Ie ok when standing upright, but when bending, reveals all, so I am too conscious to wear them. I was alo at the park the other day and when another mum bent over to dcs, I kept getting full view of her pants... (I tried not to look, but my eyes were drawn...). I was trying to decide whether to tell her, but her husband was there and could have seen to, and anyway she may have been ok with it.

I thought I could buy some shorts for under dresses, a bit like wearing tunic and shorts, but dress with shorts...

You could try the compression shorts that tennis players wear under their skirts.

MrsHoarder · 03/06/2013 20:16

Cycle shorts? Not the most flattering of clothes, but shouldn't ruin the line of your dress and will protect your modesty. Just don't get padded ones!

CMOTDibbler · 03/06/2013 20:17

I got some cotton shorts on ebay that are perfect for this. They are like very short leggings, and v comfortable

Nehru · 03/06/2013 20:30

moonstorm NO!!
just bend differently

Callofthefishwife · 03/06/2013 20:34

Is this something new. DD has been requesting shorts for under her school skirt. I said no because sweaty fanjos are not nice.

Moonstorm · 03/06/2013 20:35

Grin Nehru

On my own, I would bend modestly, with a toddler I swoop first and worry about dignity later!

Thanks, some good ideas - I never thought about the compression shirts, but that's exactly the look I'm after (well, not 'look', but you know what I mean).

Yes, I agree with Nehru, just bend with the knees which is better for your back anyway.

And wear boyshort type pants so if you do flash, well at least its not a thong [shudders]

Moonstorm · 03/06/2013 20:38

I don't see shorts under a short dress being anything different to wearing shorts alone with a t-shirt. I think dresses are shorter now- I never used to have this problem ( whe I wore lovely mid-calf length ones Blush.

It's not just my bottom, I want to hide the tops of my thighs! I don't wan to flash any pants!

i have had three toddlers ( boys, active) who are STILL ALIVE and i did never show my pants

Nehru · 03/06/2013 20:40

it sounds a bit weirdy modesty Amish the shorts thing

Or like at primary school when we did handstands

Yonihadtoask · 03/06/2013 20:43

Capri length leggings - in a colour to tone with the dress?

There was similar thread recently - re leggings with dresses?

I think shorts may be a bit bulky - something stretchy would work well though.

I bought dd volleyball shorts to wear under her skirts and dresses. Lightweight, no bulk, wash easily, dry quickly - perfect solution.

MrsCampbellBlack · 03/06/2013 20:47

I think then you need longer dresses.

I always worried more about my boobs falling out of my dresses than flashing my pants Smile

dexter73 · 03/06/2013 20:47

I might buy some for my dd who is 16. She went bowling last night in a tiny mini dress. I was going 'seriously that dress for bowling? Everyone will see your pants!'. She didn't care!

Yonihadtoask · 03/06/2013 20:47

Yes, I was doing a search and saw those too.

Just big knickers really :)

Moonstorm · 03/06/2013 20:48

I googled for volleyball shorts. I wish my bum looked liked those in the images section!

Nehru, are you sure you showed nothing?

Nehru wears her sequinned hotpants under short dresses.

Nehru · 03/06/2013 20:55

Nehru · 03/06/2013 20:55
