But her clothes just don't do it for me anymore
I thought it was a phase, but it's now ages since I thought "wow! I love that look"... It's all a bit too casual and a tad err messy
she just seems to have gone off the boil for me...
Has her style changed? or it's it something wrong with me? Should I check into Boden/Per Una???
I never look at it now either as it is how most of my friends dress so never anything new not really that inspiring.
I quite like her writing and her pursuit of the perfect <insert garment/accessory here>. But the photos of what she is wearing that day are just dull, tbh. It is always the same formula. Her "going out" outfits are a little more interesting but even then are usually "Zara jacket, skinny jeans, cowl front top" combos.
I love her writing and look forward to her posts but agree her outfits are not as good as they used to be. I think you are right Karbea shes gone a bit casual wheras I used to love her smarter but still casual looks. Its still a great blog though.
I have peek every now & then but she does seem to wear same style outfits & seems to be looking for clothes that she already has a closet full of! Also don't know how she manages to go out trying clothes on when she's wearing so many layers! I'd be in a right flap having to strip it all off in changing rooms! But then maybe I'm just jealous of her bottomless bank account!
I've found a lot of her newer stuff downright ugly, probably just means I'm a boring auld cunt.
I went off her when she started wearing those awful baggy trousers.
And I'm v bored of her quest for boyfriend jeans - they all look identical to me.
Can't find any blogs that I actually like now tbh.
It is very difficult for a real life person, as opposed to a Wendy/Atlantic-Pacific/Blonde Salad type, because they are not gifted vast quantities of beautiful clothing, nor do they exist in a world where posing for 42,000 photos a day is their only constraint. So they have to wear the same clothes sometimes and dress practically for their everyday lives, be that working in an office, chasing after toddlers or doing the school run. And everyone has a uniform really, don't they?
I still enjoy reading DMBL40, largely due to the writing style, as we have little in common shape wise! I'm not sure if I had legs that good I'd be hiding them in harems though!
Agree with amber about everyone having a uniform and the constraints of a real life blogger. Actually though, I prefer these to the Wendy / AP blogs as there are more looks and items I can actually emulate. I adored Wendy initially and of course she always looks stunning but now I rarely bother because most of her outfits involve sky high heels and are unrealistif for (my) real life. Her writing is rather anodyne too, whereas bum40 is entertainingly self deprecating. I also think that the weather's been so cold lately here that it's hard to look anything other than scruffy and covered in layers.
I enjoy reading DMBL40 because she has a good writing style and there are bits and pieces that I like. However because I work then it's not the type of thing I'd wear 5/7 days anyway. <shakes fist at dearth of work wear blogs>
I still love her and not just because she has bought the same quilted zara jacket as me - but she is about a foot taller than me so little of what works on her works on me.
But as Amber and Blue have said its hard to blog when one doesn't have a fashion photographer as a best friend, a limitless wardrobe of freebies and can't wear Louboutins the whole time.
Sometimes I look at the layers she's wearing and just think get a decent coat! But I'm obviously more practical than stylish
.
The writing style is warmer than most blogs and knowing. I couldn't copy DMBL40 as I am about 5 inches shorter and two stone heavier but I like her commitment to searching out the things she likes. The high-end fashion blogs with gifted clothes leave me cold.
I like the ones that do high end and other but are not glossy. The hardest one to do I imagine. Wendy is gorgeous but it's a lifestyle glossy thing now.
I like 40 haven't looked for a while will check it out, but hats off to her for not getting blog fatigue.
Another person at least five inches shorter who enjoys reading her. I think it's partly the quality of the writing, which amuses me, but also because she sometimes gets it wrong. She's human. it makes me feel better!
I know lots of people love that other blog - can't remember the name, but she is a beautiful Korean/American who lives in LA and she's too perfect, and too impractical. No-one real could actually dress like her - esp not the six inch louboutins. You couldn't actually have a life, could you? Not dressed like that.
So that's why I prefer the bum woman. I agree about the layers though!
I like bum40, and I must admit to having impulse-bought a few items having seen them on there (although she's not the only culprit <looks at Zara studded-sleeve coat that I didn't need> thankyou All Worn Out ladies...)
Like others, I also like her writing style, but I do wish she'd stop doing that 'Oh God I'm so tall and my bum is so non-existent, it's so terrible for me' type thing. I'm a good two inches taller than her, and I never seem to have the trouble finding clothes that are long enough that she claims to experience. Nor do I feel like a Gulliver amongst a sea of little people. I know it's meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but I just find it a bit grating. Now, if she had my arse, then she'd really have something to moan about...
the womensroom blog is good. Not quite the same single focus on what they wore, but IMO all the better for that
Oh, MissBeehiving, don't know if you look at it already, but the All Worn Out blog has started to feature workwear quite regularly now.
OK... it took me a while to work out who your talking about...
I read her blog, and love her outfits, she is the same shape as me and makes layering look really easy... in fact I'm looking at wristwarmers now on ebay
agree about the harlem trousers though.
what other fashion blogs do you all follow
Faustina that's Wendy.
I like WiT she does that real life warmth well, but is out of action for a while. And Amber for doing high/mix.
Otherwise it's pinterest really.
Thank you Marsha
. I also liked WIT, and I am enjoying the twentymumthing blog too.
I think I must be missing the point of pinterest - it lacks the humanity of a real person wearing something for me. That's what interests me about blogs - how things look when real people wear them
I do get lots of real people too on pin, a mix I'd say - see if I can entice you
. It's kind of soothing to have so many nice things flash by. Choose who to follow and it's completely tailored to your taste.
I used to love The Sartorialist but used to be so much prettier. Think it's more him now than a fashion blog. Although he's done very well.
Actually I do like it when they are there, a nice smiling face, you do get used to it. eg WiT
... but they are just empty clothes (shoes scarves etc), right? You see something you like on a website, and you pin the photo from there. that's it isn't it? Or photos of a celeb etc. Both with the photoshopping and airbrushing which makes it really hard to see what it would look like in real life, how it would hang on a normal person's body
