Just wanted to know if any of you keep items of clothing that are 'very' old but still wear?
For me, I have a Pineapple t-shirt from about 20 years ago that I still wear to bed sometimes. I love it and would never think of throwing it out! It's a little tatty but still in pretty good nick.
Is it just me?
I have an old vivienne westwood t shirt at least 27 years old
! It is still in ok condition as well! Also have my buffalo platforms which I am saving for any female grandchild I may be lucky enough to have
was just talking about this the other day. I even have mine on this moment! It's a grey wooly jumper from New Look 1996. It has nearly been thrown out twice, but i thought, no it looks fine and i haven't got many jumpers.
I also have a leather bikerish jacket which is totally knackered from 1982, which a family member gave me in in 1994!! Looks cool tho!
I have got a white Gap fine rib t-shirt that I still wear occasionally and I bought it before I got pg with dd in 2000.
A jacket I love it, bought it second hand 10 years ago. It's dated but its like a comfort blanket, I wear it every day.
My running bottoms are 'vintage' C&A teenage boys combats from 1997. Just the right fabric and deep pockets for a chilly run around the park.
Sometimes I think I have too many clothes i do. But lots of them are old and I'm the same size as I was when I was a teenagers so I just hoard it all and have masses of choice.
A black crepe A-line knee-length skirt, bought from Whistles in Covent Garden in 1995. And a pair of Miu Miu burgundy and yellow stilettos in a butterfly print from about 1997 - both still wonderful. And a pair of Marilyn Anslem for Hobbs platform suede sandals, black, round-toe, cross straps - which I bought after seeing Courtney Love wearing them on stage at the Reading festival in 1994. Still going strong.
I've got a box full of teeny tiny clubwear - Red or Dead, mostly - from the early 90s - most of it bought from a long-gone boutique in Bristol called Way Out West. I don't wear the contents of the box any more though.
A fleece from 20 years ago, when I was a student living in a freezing house. Though I rarely wear it myself, as DH has hijacked it.
My dad has a shooting jacket which he inherited from his dad. It dates from the 1920s.
I wondered the other day vaguely why my black tights came up so high on my belly. Then I realised they were maternity tights. DD is 11
A dress from Warehouse that I was wearing on my first date with DH in 1996, and it wasn't new then. Amusingly, I wore it as a dress then but now it is most definitely a top
. Actually I look at it and can't believe I ever actually got away with wearing it as a dress ...
A geometic scarf from Biba... Patsy Kensit got in the lift and was being told off by her mum...she was about 8!
A black leather coat I got from my parents for my 21st birthday in 1993. I wear it regularly.
A vintage fur that was my nanas, it probably dates from the 40's, worn only a handful of times but I'll never part with it
A thick black warehouse wool jumper I bought in 1997. Its still in great condition - I love it and still wear it when its super cold.
I have a 95 year old black silk velvet opera coat that I wear with some regularity - but I bought it in an antique market so I'm not sure it really counts!
A cagoule (I am sporty, I wear these kind of things a lot), which I bought second hand in 1989. For those that know about these things, its an original Buffalo windshirt. I have worn it at least once a week since me and £3 parted company.
Some black patent ballet flats I got for school Christmas ball in 1988. I wear these a few times a year.
I also have some terry squares for DD that were wrapped around my bottom 40 years ago!
A pair of bagpuss socks that my mum bought for me when I was about 23, so 15 years ago. Surprised they've lasted this long as I wear them about once a week. That was etam clothing for you!
Mine used to be a leather jacket that I'd had since I was 17 (I am 30), but I finally parted with it before Christmas. Next oldest is probably my Brasher walking boots (7 years, ish). Nothing else really as I am slimmer than I was before DS1, and took great delight in tossing my fat clothes.
I have a guernsey jumper that my parents gave me to keep me warm in my first year of uni halls. That was in 1996 and it still comes out every winter. It saw me through 3 consecutive Berlin winters - bitterly cold - and still in perfect condition. It looks great with skinnies, boot cuts, is ultra flattering, and I'll never throw it out! A wardrobe must-have for me
Leaving aside the vintage items which I bought when they were already old.
I have a suit which I bought in my first job 12 years ago which I still wear, and a pair of knee high boots I bought at University 15 years ago.
I've got a jumper that's over 10 years old that I used to pull on post clubbing. I then wore it at night over my PJs whilst breastfeeding. I now wear it for slobbing about and both boys love snuggling up to me in it.
I have a pair of knickers that I bought when I was 15.
I am 39 now
I have a 20 year old M&S sweatshirt. Being of the 90s, the sleeves are massive and it's a little faded, but it's very cosy and the fabric hasn't pilled at all. Probably one of the last things they had made in the UK.
I have a red gingham dress that I bought from Miss Selfridge for £3 15 years ago.
Still going strong.
A purple satiny shirt by Jenni Barnes. Bought it in 1984. It's big and floaty. I burned the collar once, but took it off and turned it round so the burn mark doesn't show. I only wear it once or twice a year, but can't bear to throw it out. I had lots of shirts from Jenni Barnes, a short-lived label in Dickens and Jones, lovely good quality stuff. Wish I had kept more of them.
Grey mohair-mix jumper bought from Chelsea Girl in 1985 - elbows still intact. Wear it every winter, though only inside the house now. Who would have thought CG was the go-to shop for lasting quality?
