Under eye wrinkles - what can I do?!

Hi all. I'm 41 and this last year I've noticed my age catching up with me. The skin under my eyes looks so wrinkled now, it's like criss cross wrinkles and the skin is sagging slightly so if I'm in a certain light it looks even worse.

From previously looking young for my age (being told many times that I looked early 20s when I was mid 30 s) now when I tell people my age they believe me straight away sad . Disclaimer - not that there's anything wrong with looking 41, i just want my skin to look better.

Has anyone found a product or treatment that actually makes a difference in wrinkles and skin tone? There's so many products out there that I get totally addled wondering which one to buy or which ingredients I should be looking for, it's all v confusing!

Can anyone help?

mrsmartin Sat 11-Feb-12 15:50:54

what do you use now?

pinkyredrose Sat 11-Feb-12 15:52:54

I've been using Clarins Eye Revive Beauty Flash but can't see that its helping much really.

I mean your total routine...cleanser, toner, moisturiser etc? And has anything happened to change your skin so dramatically - stress etc? You might just need a less harsh toner or to add in a serum or change your moisturiser

Oh sorry, I deep cleanse every night, cleanse tone etc using boots no7 or Simple products then use the Clarins eye cream and Neals Yd berry moisteriser. Usually use Neals Yd sunblock in daytime too.

In the morning I use facewipes, use a facepack whenever I remember usually about once a month. Does anyone know if you can get a 'facepack' type product that targets the eye area?

Actually I think I am quite stressed, got alot on my mind right now. Also I drank.and smoked alot in my 30s, that's probably not helped much. Hardly touch either now, am sometimes tempted when I go out though but that's hardly ever these days.

Ggirl how are you getting on with those products, can you see a visible difference?

I think you probably just need a couple of masks to give your skin a kick up the arse! Decleor do a really good eye mask in their hydrafloral range and I swear by the elemis tri-enzyme range. I used to use the clarins eye gel and it did absolutely nothing. Now I use pro collagen marine cream as my day moisturiser and eye cream in one and there is a marked improvement in terms of hydration without making my eyes more puffy.

Ooh that all sounds v intetesting, will check out Decleor and the other ones mentioned, thank you!

Has anyone tried those pads, the ones you put under your eyes for half an hour or so that are meant to reduce wrinkles and puffiness? Also has anyone tried the caffiene roll on? Wondered if they were any good.

Mrsmartin, you're right my skin does need a kick up the arse!

I remember coco said that one of those caffeine roll on things was really good a while back
I also put Vaseline on my eye area if I'm slobbing about in the house sometimes - it 's really effective
The decleor eye creams that I use is the excellence one . It'sbreally effective but you can't put it over anything else or it will just rub off. I have found that it's cheapest at cheap smells. Is quite a pricey product really.

sleep on your back, those vertical lines come from your face being squashed on your pillow

Where is the best/cheapest place to buy the Elemis marine cream Mrs.Martin- you are a fountain of knowledge

c0rnsilllkrunninglikealaydee Sun 12-Feb-12 11:05:33

elemis procollagen eye cream is also really nice
I used to buy my elemis from time to spa or QVC

Botox will sort your crows feet out abd by default can pull the unde eye skin outwards a bit and ease lines, although not ewradicate them.

If you want drastic action, that is.

Lets be honest, eye creams don't work

I read that Preparation H is good for eye bags. <Helpful>
The garnier caffeine eye roll on I have found great, takes a little while to start working but it was perfect when I was sleep deprived with a new baby.

If you go to the Guardian website Sallie Hughes tests an under eye mask thingy, like a paper thing you pop under your eye

I have looked at botox as well but am still too scared!

I puy my pcmc from qvc - I've been buying up item 200194 at it is the same price as then pcmc on it's own but also includes 4 other full size products. If you are used to ebay you could easily sell the other bits for a good £35-£45 which will practically pay for the cream. Or you can keep the products for yourself/to give as gifts. The pro radience cleanser is my new favourite and is £27.60 on the elemis site, the monoi (my all time fave body product) is £29.70, the bath elixir is £19 and the hand cream is £22 (I don't like it but it is massive and has been well received as presents). The value is immense - about £150!! So that is my pcmc best buy - you also get a blue patent gift bag btw. wink

Wow I'll have to check out qvc!

Hadn't thought of botox am.not against more invasive methods though, maybe I should look into it.

I'd heard about Prep H too! I'd like to try it but am a bit scared. Actually it'll be easier than botox won't it? Right I'm off down the chemist!

Some brill suggestions, thanks! Have been using ebay alot lately, going to see if I can find any of these products on there!

Is that true peasandlove that sleeping on your side gives you wrinkles??? of to sew a tennis ball in the back of my pjs then wink

mrsmartin Tue 14-Feb-12 00:55:16

You get the wrinkles because of the pressure you are putting on a specific area of your face. Think of your skin like the skin on a tomato - when it is fresh and fully hydrated it is lovely and firm and plump. As it ages the hydration decreases and wrinkles appear - it shrivells up! And if you move the skin in a particular direction, the less hydrated it is the longer the skin will stay in that position. You can't stop ageing but you can delay it and the best way is to keep skin hydrated and protected from the sun.

magic sleeping on your side can also have negative effects on your eyebrows. I have always slept on my left side and over the years that caused the tail end of my eyebrow to effectively wear off!!! Revitabrow has fixed it but it is true - my pillow rubbed off my eyebrow!

Skincare is amazing though. I started a new job today and sat next to a woman who is exactly the same age as me. She had a much better bone structure than mine and therefore should be much less prone to wrinkles. However, all I could focus on were the lines on her face - she had crows feet and dehydration lines on her cheeks and around her nose at the age of 24! I can't even get my eyes to make crows feet when I screw them up!

Praise to the elemis and decleor gods!!!
