I'm curious.
Everyday I put on my make up more or less first thing.
1- I feel that I look better with it. (True or not I don't know, dh does'nt think so
).
2- I don't feel awake/able to function until its on.
3- I feel more grown up
I have friends who wear make up some days and not others, who can take it or leave it. I couldn't do that!
The only time it stays off is if I'm ill.
I agree with 1 and 3. I rarely have a day without make up as my eyes look tiny without it!
I look like the living dead without it. People ask me if I'm ill, if I've got a black eye blah blah blah
4 - I'm blonde with pale skin, if I don't wear it I look ill
So as not to scare small children.
- I feel more together and ready to face anyone I might need to deal with. More authoritative I suppose
- I look nicer
I mainly wear it because my skin tone is quite blotchy and it just evens out my skin and lets my features do the talking rather than the patchy red bits! Most days it's just foundation (a nice, light, dewy one that doesn't really look like it's there when I wear it) and mascara. Something more special for a night out.
Tinted moisturiser to even skin tone.
Mascara and smudgy pencil eyeliner across the top to make eyes look better.
Blusher to stop being too one colour.
That's it usually.
I have to wear make up everyday as I definitely look better without it. DH would agree! My skin is really spotty so I have to wear foundation, concealer, and then I have to wear blusher to brighten my skin. Then mascara is an essential.
I envy those who don't wear it, I think as long as you have good skin then you can get away without any, but everyone looks better with mascara!
That first line should have said 'with it'!
1. it brightens my skin
2. it makes me feel prettier
3. I scare the children without it
4. it gives me confidence
5. I enjoy creating different looks
Interestingly DH thinks I look better without??
I like experimenting with different looks and trying out different colours.
It's a way of having fun.
I only tend to wear a full face of make up if I go out. Day to day the most I wear is probably a bit of eye liner and I think I only do it as I feel like I should make the effort.
Would you believe my now MIL once said her only criticism was I didn't wear enough make up! Hilarious. I should mention I have reasonable ok it's like a porcelain doll skin, dark hair/eyes and eyelashes so I just about get away with it.
I must however confess there is no excuse for my hair, I don't make the effort and it really shows
Sometimes I go completely without. Usually wear concealer and mascara. Can take it or leave it. I actually like the contrast of when I've made a big effort to the run-of-the mill kinda look.
1. Because I love it; the ritual and the transformation
2. I feel able to face the world
3. Because of 1 & 2 it makes me happy
Just tinted moisturiser, lip balm and sometimes blush or lipstick. Don't usually wear eye makeup unless going out or looking particularly knackered... am pretty comfortable without it.
I definitely feel a bit rubbish without it, all patchy and shiny with squinty, piggy eyes. The only time I don't bother with any makeup is if I'm not actually leaving the house.
On a normal day it's foundation, mascara and a bit of lipgloss; if I'm going out I add some eyeshadow/liner.
Never in my life worn blusher, for some reason....
I look like a boiled potato without it.
Not a good look.
I am happy to go without it, but I do tend to put it on first thing every day now - just a touch of foundation, some mascara and maybe something on my cheeks.
It makes me feel better but I fully realise that it's social conditioning that means make-up, of all things, makes me feel better...
Interesting that men don't worry about scaring small children by going make-up free. Are our complexions really that much worse than men's? And if so (I doubt it, but if so), then surely it is because we wear make-up all the time?
Agree with 1-3. It just starts my day and makes me feel as though I've had some "me" time (albeit got my make up routine to less than 10 min now!)
I have always put make up on even when dd was newborn. It ended up kind of a routine for her in a morning as she used to nap when hairdryer went on if I washed my hair and the same with my "swirl and tap" technique (use bare escentuals makeup)
the "tapping" was one of the first things to make her laugh so my beauty regime obviously helps her developmentally
If I don't do hair and make up I look like Roy Croppers geeky daughter
I feel that wearing make-up helps me look younger and evens out my skin tone. Thus, I feel more confident. Rarely without it unless poorly or having a day at home.
I wear it because i love it. I agree i only don't wear it when i am ill. Even gave birth to 2nd DC with a full face and lippy on(very easy birth)
It makes me feel like me.....and i look better. My skin looks better and therefore i feel happier. Its the start to the day and i know i would hate leaving the house without it.
Boosts confidence and mood!!! Also i love browsing the counters to try new shades, textures, products. Make up is part of me and i am happy with that!
However i do have friends who don't wear it and they look lovely so its horses for courses!
I'm good at applying it and enjoy it.
It makes 'me' just that bit brighter, nothing like a slick of the perfect nude lip gloss!
Would not open the front door without it.
I have what a dermo called translucent skin- which means it is very pale and all the blue lines and shadows show through.
Without make up people ask "Are you okay?"
I put it on every morning after showering and takes 10 minutes- basics are foundation, concealer, blusher ,mascara, lipgloss. Add eye shadow and brows if going out.
It's part of getting dressed for me - without it I look half asleep and vaguely unwell... It makes me feel happy, confident, more in control. And if it sounds sad/worrying that I need a bag of paints to give me that boost, I would counter that as pick-me-ups go it's a pretty cheap fix! And it's fun.
