Calling all movie fans

SandyMumsnet · 08/01/2015 11:51

We've been looking at the boards of late and can see that there is a lot of Movie Talk scattered about the place. Everyone loves a good new movie or a snuggly old classic, so we thought we'd bring them all together in a new topic called Movies.

Are you passionate about movies? Can a film reduce you to tears, make you howl with laughter, scream with panic or shudder with goose bumps? Do some fill you with rage?

We'd really like to hear all the gory details, so get yourself over to Movies and start a thread, pop in a trailer with a link for good measure and we'll be right by your side with the pick'n mix.

We've made Movies more visible in Talk with its own category and plan to make things a bit more interesting by cranking all things film up a notch or two. We'll be introducing some fun stuff and plan to make Movies the best place for movie fans to hang out.

But we want to hear what you think first...

Got any thoughts and suggestions? Jump on this thread and let us know, we're all ears.

And remember this includes each and every one of you, buffs and beginners alike.

We look forward to your feedback
MNHQ

Very nice. Looking forward to jawing away about old classics.

As long as I can eat Butterkist (Ra! Ra! Ra!) instead of paying £3. sodding 99 for a small bag of fresh popcorn that cost approx 40p to make.

Could you do Film of the month like book of the month but instead of sending out fifty free copies of the book you could pay for one adult ticket to the local cineworld/other (or deposit £10.40) into my paypal in lieu... (not serious)

Angelto5 · 21/01/2015 12:11

Excellent idea MNHQ Smile (claps)

Looking forward to some great threads

Merrylegs · 21/01/2015 12:25

I like it - but but. Movies? I know, just being curmudgeonly, but wot is wrong with Films? Genuine q. I mean do you honestly say 'I'm going to watch a Movie?' Unless you're in Annie - 'Let's Go to the Movies'

ImBatDog · 21/01/2015 12:37

movies? have we decamped to america?

iklboo · 21/01/2015 12:40

I still say 'pictures' Blush

diddl · 21/01/2015 12:47

I go to see a film or go to the pictures!

diddl · 21/01/2015 12:50

Is one ever a movie critic or always a film critic?

Film buff v movie buff?

Gotta be film hasn't it?

FourEyesGood · 21/01/2015 13:35

I too would prefer it to be called 'Film' or 'Films'.

Other than that, I'm all in favour!

susiedaisy · 21/01/2015 13:41

Films not movies pleaseSmile

GraysAnalogy · 21/01/2015 13:48

Brilliant, I'm a movie buff

LilMissSunshine9 · 21/01/2015 13:55

wohooooo best idea MNHQ. Finally one place for all the movie threads to look at :)

SandyMumsnet · 21/01/2015 15:15

Interesting thoughts on the name, Movies or Film. We'll certainly have a think about that, thanks for flagging.

JuniperTisane Film of the month is something we plan to do. All suggestions welcome. If you fancy starting a thread over in Movies with your top contenders we'll make sure they're on the list.

I don't say 'movie', I say 'film'... And I don't go to the 'movies', I got to the 'pictures/cinema'.

I'm not too fussed though that you've decided to call it movies rather than film. I quite like the idea of a topic though. Going to see 'the theory of everything' soon and very excited about it.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 21/01/2015 15:57

Isn't there already "Watch With Mumsnet" or is that just TV / Netflix?

Anyways nice idea. One of my favourite threads ever (now in Classics I believe) was trying to figure out the film clip in the John Lewis Christmas advert - it turned into a real trip down memory lane with all sorts of references to old film actors and classic films.
