Zombie has a couple of questions...

IamtheZombie · 14/03/2012 23:44

for Tech. They aren't urgent so Zombie doesn't mind if Tech takes a while to answer.

  1. Why do some codes work on MN while others don't?

1 (supplemental). Is there a way (other than trial and error) to work out which ones will work and which ones won't?

  1. Why is the default on the number of replies to show on TIO set at 18. Is this a mystical number of some sort?

Zombie thanks Tech for his attention in due course.

Zombie thanks Giyadas for the Brew. Most refreshing.

Zombie is happy that she makes Valpollicella laugh. Please don't feel creeped out by Zombie's posts. Zombie is harmless (or should that be armless as bits are prone to fall off...). Zombie does have a serious side but she tends to hide that in the Dustbin.

Zombie Grumpla back.

Hi IamtheZombie, we have let Tech know you're after him. He looked a bit freaked out will be along to answer your Qs in a bit.

Tech · 15/03/2012 13:09

I'll take the second part first. There is a limit of 18 on Threads I'm on. I don't know where it came from. In fact, there is a preference under Customise that lets you choose the number of replies you want, but the number you see never goes over 18 even if you choose 25 or 50, because somewhere in the gubbins behind the scenes, there's a maximum set of 18. We'll have a look at fixing that so that it respects the preference. [Can't get the staff emoticon]

On the Alt-keys thing, the characters in character set iso-8859-1 should work graphic table here.

There's a wrinkle regarding the numbers around 150. They are not part of 8859-1 and shouldn't really be supported, but they are part of the windows 1252 character set. So they'll normally work and 150 will give you an n-dash. (See the bit about illegal characters here if interested.

Tech · 15/03/2012 13:14

Actually this is maybe a more readable list of characters in windows-1252

Zombie thanks both Helen and Tech.

Tech, this is the chart Zombie found when she googled Alt codes:

alt-codes.org/list/

She has now also googled Windows 1252.

By comparing all 3 lists, she understands why numbers 1 -31 won't work. She also sees how the list she first found uses the number range 0128 - 0255 to incorporate Windows 1252 characters into the list. She assumes the leading 0 is ignored.

Zombie will use Windows 1252.

Zombie is happy.

Thanks

Zombie - did I miss something?
why do you refer to yourself in the 3rd person?

IamtheZombie · 15/03/2012 17:47

Zombie has always referred to herself this way. She feels it reinforces her individuality.

Tech asked the same question on another thread. He referred to it as my schtick. Zombie thinks that about sums it up.

And, yes, Zombie did need to google the definition of schtick...
