The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Starting the New Year in Fine Style

Hello, I'm Venus, and standing in for Mouse (who usually starts all our threads)

This is a safe and welcoming place for anyone who is facing up to a problem with alcohol. It may be something you’ve known for years, or it may be that struggling with dry January has made you re-think your relationship with drink.
Anyway, welcome old and new, lurkers and posters. It can be a weird thread at times – travelling on a bus called Gerald.... he takes us up and down and this wondrous land, searching high and low for Babes in need of some support, a warm place to sit and chat, and to have someone to listen to them.

So, grab a seat as we swing by your way. There's lots of hot drinks, food and fleeces, places to just be and places to sit around and chat if that's what you want.

We don't judge, because we've all been in your shoes, be they stilettos, wellies or crocs!...

We're just us, we're just honest and we just do what we can to help, if we can, when we can. If you find all the banter off-putting just jump in with a cry for help.

And HAPPY NEW YEAR xxx

Here is the very first, emotional thread if you would like to see where this all started

Our most recent thread, if you want to catch up

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2015 13:08

Soc, go back and help fill the old thread - you naughty Babe you!

soupey1 · 13/01/2015 14:13

Hi everyone - the old thread is now saying it won't accept any new messages so I guess it's ok to be here.

sweet good review of the rhubarb and ginger and look forward to more.

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2015 14:27

Soupey, Hi!, Yup, I filled it up 'No babe left behind'.

How are you today?

obrigada · 13/01/2015 14:33

Grabbing a seat, a blanket and a mug of soup Grin

babyjane1 · 13/01/2015 14:35

Hey guys,

Just marking my place guys, wrote a post and lost it so I'm going to stomp about for a while then I shall return xxx

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2015 14:46

Hurrah! Gerald is filling up! - Feeling much better this afternoon - some odd thoughts aboutdrinking this morning - esp when I picked up a beer can that had been left because the recycling basket was full, only to discover that DH had only drunk 2/3. How can he do that? 2/3s of a can with dinner and then drank (my) mint tea for the rest of the evening? But I am feeling very even right now - I know, I'm a right old drama queen, flibberty-gibbit. Up one minute, down the next.

Obrigada, how you feeling?

Hope you've got some good stompy boots Baby.

Rubyredlips · 13/01/2015 14:58

Hiya all.

Just returned from my first day back at work after 4 weeks illness. Doing a few short days to ease myself back in.

So hopping on the bus with some lemon and poppy seed cake and coffee. Anyone else for Cake?

Rubyredlips · 13/01/2015 15:00

Oh and thank you Venus for your techie skills and setting up the thread. Smile

Rubyredlips · 13/01/2015 15:04

Are you feeling any better Obrigada?

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2015 16:06

Cake, cake, Please Ruby - but it's after 11am so I can't drink coffee (how come I have an off switch for coffee but not wine?

How are you feeling after your first day back?

obrigada · 13/01/2015 16:19

Afternoon babes; am feeling more human now thankfully. More of a groggy feeling than a full blown hangover. Epsom salts bath, pjs and early night for me!

soupey1 · 13/01/2015 16:22

Mmmm Cake. I have to go to a committee meeting tonight which a) means it is easy to avoid wine as I will be driving and it will be bedtime when I get home and b) we often get Cake at this particular meeting!

beachestoexplore · 13/01/2015 17:18

Thanks Venus for the new thread, old codger trumps young techies Grin (I consider myself in the old codger bracket too but clearly not so technical!)

Spanna caught sight of you on the last thread, great to see you peanut, you sound almost boingy on day 11 Grin

Ruby would kill for cake but am dieting this month too. Glad your first day back went well today Smile

Sweet sorry but that rhubarb and ginger tea sounds foul - washing up liquid bleugghh Smile

Obrigada grateful for the reminder of how horrible hangovers are, hope you have a lovely bath and snuggle up for a good nights sleep tonight.

Soc you are always first on, I admire your speed!!

Soupey. Committe meeting Sad BUT cake Grin!

Baby losing posts drives me batty, especially after writing lots. Why does it do it? Grrr

To all other babes, hello!

Sun and snow here which is beautiful and bright. Only the shovelling to moan about. Xxx

CrabbyTheCrabster · 13/01/2015 17:27
Smile
SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2015 17:40

Hi Beaches - would love some consistent cold, bright and frosty weather here, but I think you can keep the snow, my route to work is mostly country lanes.

OK Crabby, you get it for now, I'm just going to wander up and down the aisle checking that everyone is behaving - I know what you girls are like , then I'm going to sit next to the driver Grin.

I was looking at last year's January threads and thought how much more positive I seemed this time last year. I also saw that it was somewhere around day 13 that I slipped up and started drinking again. So , I am standing in a state of heightened readiness for Old Saggy Tits, arm raised for a big, Miss Piggy "Hiyah!'.

ruralreynard · 13/01/2015 18:25

Well done Venus tech genius Smile
Popping in to bag my seat in the sidecar. Blush
Cutting down and determined to be back on the bus soon.
Its cold in this sidecar and its snowing Grin

guggenheim · 13/01/2015 19:23

Hi babes
I'm waving from the sidecar too

I'm feeling happier and just drinking a small amount. I'm going to try for 2/3 af days this week.

Sorry I haven't nc but I'm going to take my dm's off the seat in front, stop sticking gum under the seats and smile pleasantly at all. Night babes : )

dementedma · 13/01/2015 19:44

Checks in with a confession - cracked today, day 13.
WW appeared in the office around 4pm. Vile, cold snowy weather and the thought of curling up on the sofa with a glass or two. I really tried. Forced myself into gym kit and went down to friends house to do exercise but she had forgotten and gone out! Ran a bath - no hot water! And cracked.
But I am staying on the bus. I did 13 days. I have proved I can cut down. It remains to be seen what happens next. Can I do another long AF stretch (13 days is long for me) or will I be back on the slippery slope?
Its my birthday tomorrow.......
rural good to see you my friend.

aliasjoey · 13/01/2015 20:02

Thank you venus for setting up the the thread and the links Flowers

ma I think I'd crack too if there was no hot water and I wanted a bath! 13 days is marvellous though (and well done on trying to avert the inevitable by going to your friends etc. sounds like you used every trick in the book! You deserve a medal)

SweetLathyrus · 13/01/2015 20:17

That sidecar is going to get mighty cosy!

Ma that sounds like a really tough day, thwarted at every turn. Are you planning to carry on drinking for tonight or stop now? You demonstrated to yourself that you can do the long stretches, you can start another one tomorrow - you will want to as part of your diet any way.

Right, and now for another Tea Pig Review: Chilli Chai . . . I'm not a real tea fan a part from some fruity ones, but this was pretty impressive! It smells like Christmas, lots of cinnamon and cardamom. It didn't taste of much at first, but once it had brewed, the chilli gave it a really warming kick. I didn't add milk or sugar (which would be the Indian way ), but I can see that would be nice for anyone who does like it sweet and milky. I will be ordering some more.

Mouseface · 13/01/2015 20:23

Evening, tis me, Mouse

venus - you're an absolute star! Thank you so much.... I'm a bit all over the place at the moment. My DD has split up with her BF of 16 months, first real relationship as such and I am really going to miss him. He's a really nice lad, she's just outgrown him, nothing more. Sad

Also, I'm 40 tomorrow (when's your's Ma?) so maybe I'm a bit blue with that going on too, my grandad is in hospital, everyone seems to be feeling fed up and I think I've caught the bug...

Either that or it's my new meds which is highly likely. I am the 1 in 1,000,000. when it comes to the side effects!

Anyway - hello to all the new faces I've not had the pleasure of chatting to as of yet. This Bus is a lovely place and will keep us all nice and warm tonight, tis' freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing out in the sticks tonight.

Hot chocolate and marshmallows is a good pick of the winter warmers for comfort, I think that's what I'll be on and then to bed.

Hope you're all okay? I've only really skim read..... sorry xxx

Happy birthday Mouse for tomorrow from a longtime lurker! Feeling brave and dipping my toe into the new thread to wish you a happy day.

I'm on day 13 of DJ, and finding it ok. But what is very clear to me is that this needs to be a longer term way of life for me, so I'm going to jump ship from the (fab) DJ thread onto here, if you'll have me. You guys are amazing with your support, affection, wisdom and occasional gallows humour - thanks for making me laugh and making me feel less like this is a solitary journey I'm on.

Sharpkat · 13/01/2015 20:39

Please can I jump in the sidecar as well. Been here before. Will be back with my story again soon, but will snuggle under a blanket if you will have me back x

dementedma · 13/01/2015 20:39

Birthday tomorrow mouse same as you. But I'm a wee bit older. (Ahem)
Welcome smallfox. I'm on the DJ thread too and its great but this is home!
I need to not down the whole bottle tonight. Have a very early start tomorrow to an event in Glasgow all day. I also need to keep on the diet and weight loss. I have a very important meeting on Friday.......someone may be there! Grin
