What sort of thing are you thinking of Nymphadora?
My only experience was a bit of a bad one as I had a missed miscarriage diagnosed at a private scan - and then obviously went to NHS with results and they eventually performed ERPC.
In fact I think this is how it would work with anything "diagnosed" at a private scan - you would just take the results to NHS and get any further treatment from them, for free.
I don't know for sure but when I was looking into private scans I am sure I read that anything they find will be passed on to your NHS GP/Consultant so I would assume you could then take it from there - so no, you wouldn't have to pay as you could then revert back to the NHS for further treatment. Of course, depending on timeframes, you may want to continue paying for private treatment anyway.
Hopefully someone will be along in a minute who knows for sure.
Oops, xpost with Gargula
Possible ectopic
depends whether you want private treatment or NHS treatment next - can you elaborate on what is wrong?
The place I had a private scan only did scans, so if I had a bad result I would have just called midwife and got referred to the hospital or whatever.
I expect most places that do private scans only do scans, so you wouldn't be pushed in to paying for private treatment.
Hope it works out.

I think you would referred back to your EPU for further investigation- I hope that the scan shows nothing of concern for you [gentle un-mnetty hug]
I know nothing about private treatments during pregnancy, or treatments for ectopic in general - but I am convinced you could take results of your scan to the NHS and get treatment for free.
Hope the scan has good news for you.
I had a nuchal scan that was borderline and then ended up paying for a detailed anomoly scan.
However if we'd have wanted an amnio we could have had it done on the NHS but we chose not to based on a good anomoly scan.
FWIW I found it was much more stressful, sometimes a little knowledge is a bad thing
No, you would certainly be treated on the NHS for an ectopic pregnancy.
If you have reason to suspect an ectopic I'd be surprised if you could not get a scan very quickly on the NHS too.
Wishing you all the best, anyway.
you can be referred as a private patient by the private clinic - in which case you would have to pay for treatment, or they are much more likely to tell you to get your gp to refer you, so you don't pay for further treatment. you should be able to phone dr and explain situation and get a fast referral - I did this and got a letter the same afternoon, without going in to see him.
good luck, hope it is all ok.
agree with alark if you have an ectopic pg then I imagine you would be straight into A&E then off to theatre.
Not really routine private scanning IYKWIM
Could you not go straight to your nearest EPU? Not that I think you couldn't have NHS treatment after a private scan, just that I'm wondering why, if you're concerned about having an ectopic, that you're going to a private scanning place.
Oh Nymphadora, are you okay?
I agree with Otterinaskoda, if you think you're pregnancy is ectopic I would get straight onto your EPU, they won't refuse to scan you I'm sure. Hugs
If you have symptoms of an ectopic, please phone your midwife/epu and push to be seen as soon as possible.
If you have had history of ectopic pregnancy, then ask your midwife to refer you or self-refer to local EPU (assuming you haven't already).
If you have tried both of these channels already, and are happy to pay private rather than keep pushing, then you simply take the report from your scan to your midwife/GP following your scan.
HTH
if the private scan shows a problem if you want it sorted out privately you'll have to pay (unless you have medical insurance that covers it) - if its an ectopic then go straight to A&E/call EPU and it will be sorted out on NHS.
When i had my private 4d scan, I signed a form to say that if they found anything of worry or concern then they would inform me and contact my Drs to inform them. Had to fill in my DR's details.
They found at my scan that my Amnotic fluid was littel on the low side, My midwife was informed who chatted with me about it and fro looking at the scan decided it was ok.
If they thought Eptopic then you can just inform your MW/Dr and they would look into it. You wouldnt have to pay for private unless you wanted to.
Agree with the others though. What makes you think Eptopic? If you seriously think it could be then get onto them ASAP.
It's probably not ectopic but I'm gettingmmyself in a state waiting for a scan. Saw gp this am and he gave me a card for urgent scan to give to receptionist. A few phone calls this afternoon tell me they post the scan request and scan people won't get it until tomorrow pm. It is then dependant on them fitting me in on Friday or more likely next week.
Gp said if pains get worse go to a&e , they have got slightly better so am feeling more confident though I have spent the day in bed crying
Cos I was winding myself up dh suggested getting private scan (60miles away and I'd need to take myself) which might reassure me BUT I was convinced that the rules had changed and if you go private for tests you have to go private for 'fixing the problem'.
No EPU anywhere near me
Thanks for all the responses by the way I am trying to convince myself that it's just aches& stuff moving but not very successfully ATM
Here's a list, just in case there is one. pretty
that they're expecting you to wait so long tbh.
Nearest on Carlisle approx 120 miles away!
I have been pretty forceful about getting seen asap too. Loads of things this pg have pissed me off though I think our area wants you to do it on the cheap!
I think it may be one of those times I shouldn't be Reading pg threads as they do allmake me symptom spot/ panic/ worry and spending all day on my own on the Internet hasn't helped
How are you feeling this morning? Have you still got pains?
Not as bad , some on the right side today so maybe it is just the settling pains. I had a lot in my back last night too but nothing has got worse and no more stabbing ones. I just need to know for my sanity!
Private place can do me tomorrow but am still hoping nhs tell me either today or tomorrow I will have totally lost the plot by next week.
I have never seen dh so fuming as he was yesterday when I was telling him the saga of them posting it & it taking a few days!
I think I am a worrier and knowledge has made it worse
but if this turns out to be a problem then the system could be making things so much worse
