Pink tinged cervical mucas when I wiped just now. Fuck. How worried should I be? Only 5.5 weeks. What should I do? I this because I had a bath last night? Stupid idiot

I'm sure it has nothing to do with your bath - otherwise the world would be an empty place

It's nothing to do with your bath.

It could be implantation bleeding. Do you have any other worrying symptoms - pain for example?

i bled at 5.5 weeks with both pregnancies, both were harmless bleeds.

And FFS stop calling yourself a stupid idiot! Where on EARTH did you get the idea that having a bath causes miscarriages?

I had that at 6.5 weeks, it turned out to be a cervical erosion, basically a little red patch on the cervix prone to bleeding - which can be irritated by coughing, sex, straining to poo, overdoing it etc

I'm not saying that's definitely what yours is but it's very common, they can diagnose it by basically having a look at the cervix. Have you had a cough, or been constipated? I would take it easy for today, keep an eye on it and try not to worry. Loads and loads of women have some bleeding in early pg which turns out to be nothing. Good luck.

Bumperlicious - when I have had early miscarriages (and I have had 2)the bleeding has always started as brown blood and has continued over a long period.

With this pregnancy (baby currently kicking me as I type) I had pink tinged mucuous at around 6 weeks and was convinced it was all over- I went for a scan and all all was well and continued to be well. If you need some reassurance phone your EPU directly for a check up scan.

i had that with all four pregnancies that were succsesful -even the twins ! .
the MC`s i had, it always started with pain and then dark brown blood.
i know its worrying , but chances are you and baby are fine... phone your midwife if your worried ,epu are great at getting very early scans to reasure.

hi bumperlicious. I'm in the exactly the same position, 5.5 weeks and pink bleeding which stains slightly. still going now. Have an early scan next week. I'm worried too. Hope you turn out ok. You never know what's going to happen but small amounts of bleeding is nothing to worry about, it's if it gets heavier with clots...

I don't have a midwife yet, and at not yet 6 weeks I don't there is anything the EPU can do.

I guess for every negative story there is a positive one so will just have to wait.

Thanks for the reassurance, just felt a bit on my own, DH is at work today. I know the bath thing is probably an old wives tale, I just thought they weren't recommended in pregnancy, but I felt so ropey and tired last night I really needed one.

Poor DD is stuck watching back to back Peppa Pig while I sit and mope.

bumperlicious/yellowmum - sorry you are both worrying. I had pinkish discharge (I hate that word) at around 6 weeks and think it was the implantation bleeding.

I think lots of hospitals have drop-in clinics for emergency scans. I went to one that wasn't at my local hospital when I was 9 weeks as I just didn't feel pg anymore (sounds stupid I know but they took it very seriously). So might be worth phoning local hospital and asking if they have something like that?

Thanks for asking, feeling ok. No more sign of any discharge, pink or otherwise. Am analysing every physical symptom as if it might reassure me that I am still PG, not that it means anything.

DH is being very good, waiting on me, bringing me ice cream. I told him he needn't run around after me, nothing I can do, but he says it makes him feel better, like he is doing something. Either way am going to be on tenterhooks for weeks now. Had an awful feeling about this time. Part of me thinks is it my instincts telling me it's not going to work out or is it that this time I know so many more mums and now know how common miscarriage is. Whereas first time I felt 'it won't happen to me' now I feel 'how can it not?'.

It could be that your cervix is very sensitive due to the pregnancy hormones and it sometimes bleeds easily because of this, especially if you have had sex/been bumped. It sounds normal and nothing to worry about.

it sounds like cervical erosion to me. i had that with my 1st pregnancy, i had alot pinky discharge and bleeding too. i was worried sick when it happened and was convinced i lost the baby, it turned out fine.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm 10 weeks preg. last week I noticed pink spotting coming from the front every time I did a bowel movement (TMI!)

Anyway GP had a look for me cos it happened 4 times in a row and always after a poo.

She said I had thrush high up inside me (so high that I hadn't noticed any symptoms -like itching or discharge.)

She said that the thrush had inflammed the delicate tissue inside and then the process of pushing a poo out had caused some very light spotting. She's treated the thrush and I haven't seen the pink spotting since.

Just wanted to mention it cos it could be thrush in your cases - which is very common in pregnancy.

Good luck ladies. Try not to stress about it but it might be worth just checking it with your GP - I'm really glad I did.

Call your GP in the morning - even if they can't offer any immediate advice like hippychick's, they may refer you to your local EPU for a scan (they're likely to be T-V scans at this stage so you can see quite a lot). And yes, ice cream and plenty of it.

You know you've done nothing to cause this don't you? It's just really crappy.

Thanks, I feel like I haven't helped things. I was up at 5.30 this morning as had to drive colleagues in a big 9 seater 3 hours away and back. I know when people say rest etc. they are just meaning look after yourself, but it does make me feel as if I haven't helped. Hate not knowing, just can't relax.

Bumperlicious there is very little you can do at this stage to ensure that everything will be alright or indeed to cause it all to go wrong.

At this stage generally what will be will be and neither early mornings, stress, baths nor sitting wrapped in cotton wool will make any difference. Fingers crossed that it all works out for you but really - "chill". Most of us are so used to being in control of our lives but short of being an absolute numpty and doing something really stupid (I'm thinking drugs or something) you just have to accept in pregnancy that this is not the case and you take a back seat to nature.

Just to add another potential reassurance story - I'm another one with cervical erosion. Bled from about 5/6 weeks with both of mine, and for the whole of the pg with ds (now nearly 6 ) I had brown, pink, red - you name it

I had a wonderful, wonderful GP who said basically, that probably nothing I could do would make a difference to the outcome. Stress, physical exercise, sex, baths etc etc!
BUT that taking things easy would mean that if 'the worst' did happen, I'd know I'd done everything I could. And that would make my life easier. She signed me off for a week to force me to do so (later than you are, though)

If you keep having bleeds, you could try ringing NHS Direct - they suggested that I went to the EPU (GP can't tell you anything at this stage, as I'm sure you know) - & gave me details/opening times of the nearest ones.

Hi bumperlicious I too have had the same symptons as you. From 4 wks of my pregnancy upto 6wks, I also had some bright red blood appear on one day. I called my EPU when I was 5wks+4days and they said it was too early for them to do anything, they wouldn't even take my blood to check my hcg levels, they said it wouldn't prove anything. I am booked in for a scan at the end of this week which will make me nearly 7wks. Ive been worrying myself sick since it appeared. I have had 3 m/c and have no children. The pink discharge stopped at 6wks.

Thanks for the posts, still continuing, more fresh specks of blood in mucus today. Rang NHS direct who said just call the GP and let them know but nothing they can do.

Triage nurse at the surgery said nothing they can do, won't scan unless I'm properly bleeding, wait and see. I know that's all I can expect, I could cope better with a MC than with this limbo, I feel sick, but not in a MS way, in a stressed way and am knackered, not sleeping properly (even before this).

i had the pink discharge too at rougly the same stage, i even rushed to hospital convinced i was have a mc. ds was 4 yesterday xxx
