How has the pregnancy 'fog' affected you?

At 31 wks, I can laugh off putting the kettle in the cupboard and the meat for DDs dinner in the drawer I keep the saucepans in.

But a few wks ago I went to get DD from school (out of the house for just over half an hour) and left the chicken I was doing for dinner in its saucepan, merrily burning away! The kitchen was thick with smoke and our poor dog getting a bit stressed with it all.

This morning I got up and found that my straighteners were on, they've either been on for 24 hours, or I plugged them in accidently last night and can't remember. Either way they'd been on all night shock I always pull the plug out, where's my head gone??

Please tell me I'm not alone in my quest to burn our house down!

I'm not pg at the mo (but hoping to be soon grin) but this made me remember some of the crazy shit I did when pregnant with my 2, when expecting DS I lost my purse for a while, it turned up in the freezer hmm, I was worse when I was pg with DD though, always forgetting stuff, when I was about 7 months I actually forgot to go to work one day blush(honestly no joke), I was meant to be in for 1 and it just passed me by, I still can't believe I done it!
luckilly my boss saw the funny side

I put dishwasher tablets in the fridge and cheese in the cupboard under the sink, I think DH has decided it's safer to just unpack shopping on his own at the mo grin.

Also went and bought nursery furniture yesterday, which I paid for whilst DH went to fetch the car. When we got going I couldn't remember paying, picking up my card or what I'd done with the receipt. We had to go all the way back today to get another copy which I promplty screwed up into a tiny little ball blush. DH took it off me and put it 'somewhere safe'.

It's driving me mad as I'm usually really organised angry.

I haven't tried to burn the house down yet though, I think hmm

At 29 weeks I pranged a car by completely misjudging a car parking space. First time I've ever hit anything in 12 years of driving blush

BLEEPyouYOUbleepingBLEEP Wed 04-Nov-09 14:25:42

I love the forgetting to go to work, that's a classic! lol

DH unpacking the shopping on his own sounds great, I might give that one a try smile

That's the thing that gets me though Angela when you say you dont think you've tried to burn the house down, I'm starting to wonder what else I've been up to and trying to keep a track on things like the iron, but if you don't know you're doing it...

It makes you really doubt yourself, and I really feel for people who have long term memory probs.

I still have it and my youngest is nearly 5

I've been generally OK this pregnancy, but last time I pulled away from the traffic lights in reverse. Was lucky I didn't hit the woman behind, but the look on her face was priceless!

I burst two tyres last week on the same bit of kerb outside work, one on Monday and again on Wednesday, basically destroying a brand new tyre. I've now taken to parking about two feet out from the kerb 'just in case' I end up with a hat trick. blush

I've also started mixing up words - telling DH that the 'onions need cleaned' (meaning windows) and asking "what do you call the thing you wear when you go cycling" and when he said "a helmet" saying "no, that word doesn't sound right".

I still have 20 weeks to go... shock

BLEEPyouYOUbleepingBLEEP Wed 04-Nov-09 22:27:53

Lol penny, I keep forgetting basic words as well. Cos I've been thinking about it today, I've also noticed that I've only been doing half a job, like not ironing a leg/arm of clothes I'm doing, or only peeling half a potato hmm I'm so glad I don't drive!

It must be that because the brain needs so much energy to work that it's not getting enough cos everything's going towards keeping the baby snug?

KarenAdie Thu 05-Nov-09 10:13:50

I'm 23 weeks and forget and/or mix up word *all the time*.

This morning I was making my breakfast, put out a bowl and a glass, and promptly poured oats (for porridge) into the glass...

Yesterday I gave the post to my boss and took his chequebook to the postbox - so glad I realised before I actually sent it (he would not have seen the funny side)! Think everyone at work thinks have gone a bit mad as generally can't remember instructions for more than 30 seconds blush.

No longer seem to be able to use cooker properly - keep turning the wrong hob on and then wondering why nothings heating up. Then when I have finished I just wonder off and leave the hob on for hours...I do this alot when I get my period too so must be a hormone related thing!

Teameric - lol that you forgot to go to work grin

Purse in fridge only once so far.

Told DSs teacher yesterday I would pick him up at 2pm for a hosp appt which is actually TODAY.

Forgot to take his drink bottle to school 2 days running now.

Cut the crusts of DHs sandwiches - he was NOT impressed and was ribbed for the rest of the day. blush

Tried to put a pair of DS1s boxers on DS3 who is 11 months.

Cleaned both the fishtanks but failed to actually clean the filter sponges in either - so pretty pointless 2 hour water lugging exercise really.

Double booked myself for a blood test 3 times in the last 2 weeks - am now scared to call and tell Docs receptionist I have messed up again. blush

Went to the wrong airport. (had booked from Stansted but went to Gatwick, paid for new flight + waited 5 hours)

Left important car rental papers at home. (on a different trip)

I'm usually very organised and in charge of all our travelling. Thinking of resigning...

Will forward this thread to DH so he can see it's normal to have pregnancy brain!

Fibilou Thu 05-Nov-09 15:08:31

I'm nearly 29 weeks and I haven't had any "baby brain".
Personally I think it's a made up nonsense

meep Thu 05-Nov-09 15:19:25

my baby is now 7mo and I still find my car keys in teh fridge

never learn to drive when preggers... my poor instructor must think its groundhog day every thursday afternoon. i master a manaevour one week then forget everything the following week sad its costing a fortune!

Bettymum Thu 05-Nov-09 15:34:04

Queued up at the photocopier with the drinks tray to get coffees for colleagues.

Weegle Thu 05-Nov-09 15:52:48

washing up just now - took all the dirty things from the right, over the sink full of washing up water and placed them on the draining board, as if clean. Then stood looking at it for a while thinking something wasn't quite right... and realised I hadn't actually washed a single thing.

Regularly putting things in the wrong place and forgetting words even if I have used them in a sentence immediately prior to trying to use again...

And just this morning managed to drive past a 4x3x2m metal enclosure right outside our house, turn around, park in front of it, get out and walk past it to promptly ask the builder "so when is your enclosure going up?" - he thought I was joking, so just played along blush

geraldinerosebud Thu 05-Nov-09 16:23:54

Like blondieminx I had my first ever prang in my whole driving career and it was SOOOO my fault.

I also brought a glass and a pair of flip flops down from upstairs and proceeded to put the glass on the floor and try and get my foot in it!

BLEEPyouYOUbleepingBLEEP Thu 05-Nov-09 17:17:35

Wow Fibilou, you sound really sure about that! How can you be so sure if you've never experienced it?

Or do you know all the posters in RL and have compared all our before and during pregnancy behaviour and have concluded we're all like this normally? smile

Fibilou Thu 05-Nov-09 17:33:27

No, I just think that it gives us something to blame "dappy moments" on.

When I do something daft people always say "oooh, pregnancy brain". No, I have always been this forgetful, pregnancy hasn't changed it

Weegle Thu 05-Nov-09 18:34:46

I disagree grin there is no way I was this 'dappy' before or since pregnancies... I am prepared to put some of it down to lack of sleep but there's also an absent-mindedness I get with pregnancy that I definitely don't have at other times. Scarily whilst pregnant I can drive from A to B and not recall a minute of the journey, and positively panic over whether I stopped at lights... I can assure you that's NOT my normal behaviour. In fact I'm so paranoid about it now that I refuse to drive long distance/motorways any more and I REALLY concentrate when I do drive and yet I still feel absent minded.

MrsJamin Thu 05-Nov-09 18:35:51

I nearly put DS's trousers on. He's under 2.

twolittlekings Thu 05-Nov-09 18:37:47

My fog head has still not left me (DS 4 months). The other day I drove off with the back door of the car still open (fortunately both DCs strapped in and the road wide enough not to bash anything. Gave me a real shock.

I have also forgotton to put the handbrake on several times and keep losing things when I have had them in my hand a second ago. blush

upduffed Thu 05-Nov-09 20:53:20

Am also a bit dappy normally, but now having to do OCD-style check every time I do something vaguely important as genuinely can't remember if I switched off/locked/put away whatever.

The mugs are definitely not kept under the sink though, I know that now.

Normally quite un-dappy at work though, and since no-one knows that am in fact
up-the-duffed yet, the sudden wall to wall clumsiness must look a bit weird - have gone all dyspraxic - walking into walls, dropping/smashing things and saying things like "the thing that goes in the thing, you know.." like my mum does (for which she has been derided incessantly) blush
