Sorry, been doing a bit of online shopping and am starting to despair. Why is it so hard to find clothes in colours other than black, grey and navy? If we must have dark colours, how about a bit of teal or purple? Or can we go mad and have a print that was designed after 1996?

I really want a pair of crisp, white pyjamas or nightshirt - proper ones, with buttons and a collar (yes I know they will be ruined but I WANT THEM.) Where are they?

And if I read the words "soft cotton jersey" once more... I want linen! I want cheesecloth! I want broderie anglais!

The White Company,Derek Rose and Cologne and Cotton have good white pyjamas in linen/cotton/silk. They are not maternity ones, but you could just get a bigger size than your usual one.

I found a few nice things in Next maternity, and I don't normally shop in next. Some nice cotton tops that skimmed rather than hugged.

If you can brave NewLook then they sometimes have some good stuff.

Wow i could have written your post GentlyDoingIt...I went shopping this weekend for work stuff & other bits and bobs- particulary dresses as I'm 32 weeks now and rather big and still have 3 weeks to work. Do you think of ALL the high street shops I could find anything? NOPE!
They were all very old fashioned and mumsy, black or just plain hideous!

I spent a whole day looking before I found one grey dress in DP that I would even consider wearing and it wasn't even maternity!

I bought stuff a size or two up from Primark, DPs and local shops - over sized t-shirts and tops, jersey cardies etc

I saw some voluminous white nighties in M&S clearly designed for the over 80s market but they had such a retro appeal. I too despair of finding nice maternity pjs.

Have you tried asos.com? Not sure that they do white nighties, but at least the clothing is nice.

Agree agree agree. Especially about the Winnie the fuckwit Pooh nightshirts. Had a MASSIVE rant at poor partner about lack of maternity pjs/nighties only the other day. All I want is something not completely unflattering to wear after the birth that will be ok to breastfeed in, doesn't cost a total fortune and won't infantilise me. Just something that I won't be embarrassed to receive visitors in, sort of malarky- I'm not expecting to look good or anything. There is f all.

My mum said they had some maternity pj's in Tchibo last week. I haven't seen them mind you.

Agree ASOS have a good maternity section.

Well, there's no sign of Winnie the Pooh on them, at least, PM! But I look shockingly washed out at the best of times in mottled grey jersey, unfortunately. And they would show off my lardy upper arms to boot. Sob!

• combat trousers

• maternity swimwear that has absolutely NO support or even attempt at coverage - am I the ONLY person whose bust has expanded to the size of Wales already and I'm only 24 weeks??!!

• no skirts - it IS meant to be summer and surely trousers aren't ideal at the best of times with the associated problems in hot weather (shhhh the thr*sh word)

So far I've managed with a few stretchy skirts from Evans and some non-mat from New Look and Peacocks (mainly those short strapless dresses with smocking tops - make great mat skirts as heaps of room to grow!)

Redoute have some purple mat/nursing pyjamas and nighties that look pretty good (but jersey again I'm afraid) I'm not due till Nov so am waiting for the winter sale before I indulge there ;)

Im killing myself laughing at these posts, brilliant, your all as angry at me. As if it wasn't bad enough that we average a new 1lb a week and half of which (if your anything like me) is being added to the arse area, they think we suddenly want to join a SAGA tour or hug trees. I went to H&M last week and unless you are a pregnant 14 year old and size 6 in need of a micro denim skirt and boob tube, then you are morbidly obese on top of 9 months pregnant and planning to do a bit gardening or muck out horses for the next few trimesters. Is it just me or is the average pregnant person not around their late 20's-30's region. Usually shopping in Oasis or Warehouse and similar? There is a calling for a maternity designer with a brain out there? My only helpful tip is Jo Jo Mama bebe have a few (and I mean few) ok bits and there is a sale online just now. They have a smart mac type coat which could do summer or winter (black of course), jeans for all lengths, an ok denim skirt and a few ok tops. Don't get too excited though, im not talking high street chic here, just bearable!

Was disapointed that even M&S don't stock maternity clothes except for their London stores - What is that all about? do people outside of London not get pregnant??? Yes ok so you can get stuff online, but surely this is the time in your life where its most challenging to get nice clothes that fit and make you feel good.

I did go to the Red Herring Maternity sale in Debenhams last week and got a fashionable looking white and teal skirt and some normal looking tops.

Bevlin I was amused to notice that there's the petite range, the tall range and the maternity range in quite a few shops. People with long legs not get pregnant then????

GracieGirl trust me even the London stores are pretty maternity light I am thanking my lucky stars that I'm not working (well apart from the lack of money) so I can get away most of the time with DH's trackie bottoms and the few "fat clothes" I didn't throw out after the diet last year. Try going from a size 8 to 16 in what feels like approx 2 weeks and you'll know where I'm coming from.

I am also waiting for the day I go into Bravissimo and they tell me I have gone beyond even what they stock, guessing it will be well before I need nursing bras

believe it or not littlewoods had some nice bit - holly willoughboobies range is ok but seriously at twenty seven and 20 weeks I am just bloody depressed!
